There is plenty of value in the new 40k Adeptus Mechanicus start collecting box set! Check out the full price breakdown and how many hobby $$$ you can save now!
Games Workshop announced a new Adeptus Mechanicus Start Collecting Set and honestly, it’s probably one of the best value buys (as far as units go) that we’ve seen in a while.
Save Hobby $$ New Adeptus Mechanicus 40k Start Collecting Value
According to GW:
The set includes the following multipart plastic kits:
– 1x Tech-Priest Enginseer (supplied with a Citadel 32mm Round Base)
– 1x Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers (10 miniatures, each supplied with a Citadel 25mm Round Base)
– 1x Skorpius Dunerider/Disintegrator (supplied with a Citadel 60x35mm Oval Base)
Usually, Start Collectings will have a unit that’s not the best for its points and will probably act like a “points filler” until you start building more of your army. However, this Box Set is loaded with useful units that we consistently see on top tables.

This box includes ten Skitarii Vanguard or Rangers (or five of each), a Tech-Priest Enginseer and a mighty Skorpius Dunerider. The floaty tank can also be built as a Skorpius Disintegrator, so you might as well get two boxes to make the most of it.
This Box Set gives you a cheap HQ, potentially two Troops choices, and the brand new tank for the army that has been the MVP of the army in tournaments for a while. But what’s the value inside? Here’s the break down:
- 1x Skitarii Dunerider/Disintegrator $75
- 10x Ranger/Vanguard models (can be taken in units of five) $44
- 1x Tech-Priest Enginseer $33
Total MSRP: $152
Total Value: $57
Not only will you more than likely be keeping every unit from this box in your main 2k list…But you’ll also be saving almost $60. that’s a kit and a half of Rangers for free.
Prices have not stopped increasing on GW’s side. But thankfully, there are ways to shop smart with this kit being a great start for Adeptus Mechanicus. You could probably buy another one of these Start Collectings and then a third Skitarii Disintegrator to really give you a solid building block of firepower.
With all of the prices broken down, what do you think about the value inside? Is this one of the best Start Collectings in terms of units found inside?
