Forge World Teasing Square Base Version of Age of Sigmar?

nagash hor walSquare bases? Forge World teasers for a new Age of Sigmar style game? More light has been shed on the square bases that we saw teased recently.

If you didn’t catch it, a vague picture appeared on one of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar’s Facebooks showing a square base. If you’ve been into AoS longer than a few months, you probably remember having to rebase all your old minis from squares to rounds. However, going off of GW’s vibe, they may be returning…

Square Bases Returning?

It’s shocking to see GW mention square bases once they purged their entire AoS miniature line of them. They even made it tournament standard to have rounds. Only months after the dust settles, it looks like they may be going back to square bases in some form. We just don’t know what exactly.

New Video Emerges Giving Clues

Coming from Warhammer TV on Youtube, a short video hinted STRONGLY to an old version of Warhammer Fantasy hitting the scene once again. As 30k sets the stage for 40k with interesting battles and lore, there may be a new (old) game something akin to Age of Sigmar that’s about to be announced.

Chaos Everchosen Archaon Wal Horz

Back before Age of Sigmar, there was Warhammer Fantasy. The rules were complex and some units were based around movement with square bases. This time frame is chock FULL of lore and even leads up to Archaon bringing about the End Times, killing off factions, and then ushering in the Age of Sigmar.

Or perhaps it will be focused not on Fantasy at all, but the early days of the Age of Sigmar called the Age of Myth:

The Age of Myth is one of the three Great Epochs of the Mortal Realms, one shrouded by legend and remembered in song and tale. It was a Golden Age when great alliances were formed, colossal cities founded and mighty works of magic constructed. It was succeeded by the Age of Chaos. It started when Sigmar started exploring the realms and ended with the Battle of Burning Skies and the dominion of chaos over the Realms.

Keep your eyes peeled for announcements just ahead. GW might have something huge that they’re waiting to reveal. As for the people that remember Warhammer Fantasy, would you prefer playing that ruleset over AoS? What faction did you play back in the day?
