1st Place: Ben Jones – Genestealer Cults Army Lists
At The Leicester Super Major, Ben’s Genestealer Cult army didn’t just stage a rebellion—it launched a full-scale uprising, toppling the competition with a perfect mix of ferocity, strategy, and the unmistakable creepiness that defines the Cults. With a lineup of monstrous leaders, brutal melee squads, and sneaky support units, Ben’s list felt like a manifesto on how to win with style, precision, and a touch of heretical charm.
Ben’s army was led by a trio of Abominants, each one a lumbering wrecking ball designed to supercharge the Aberrant units they accompanied. These melee monsters didn’t just smash their way through enemy lines—they elevated their mutant allies to a level of destruction that could only be described as catastrophic.
Supporting the chaos were two Biophagus, whose lethal hits turned already-dangerous units into outright nightmares. Their chemical cocktails ensured that every swing mattered, and when paired with the Clamavus—who forced enemy units into morale-breaking battleshock tests—Ben’s leadership squad was as much about psychological warfare as raw destruction.
At the head of it all was the Patriarch, the Cult’s sinister figurehead. Equal parts melee powerhouse and supportive buffer, the Patriarch is more than just a leader—it’s the living embodiment of the Cult’s rebellion. Rounding things out was the Sanctus, a sniper with a knack for removing key threats while staying safely out of harm’s way.
Ben’s list featured a mix of standard troops that provided a solid backbone to his uprising. Acolyte Hybrids and two units of Neophyte Hybrids brought decent weapons and bodies to the table, offering flexibility and objective-holding power.
The heart of Ben’s army lay in his three units of Aberrants. These hulking, mutated monstrosities paired perfectly with the Abominants, creating a deadly melee threat that could pulverize even the toughest enemy units. With their durability and sheer damage output, the Aberrants were like a wrecking crew, tearing through everything from elite units to heavy vehicles.
A single Goliath Truck gave Ben’s army some early-game mobility, ensuring that key units could get into position before the real mayhem began. Backing this up were two Ridgerunners, versatile vehicles that added some much-needed ranged firepower and mobility. These speedy buggies aren’t just there to look cool—they pack a punch, offering precision damage and support for the Cult’s more aggressive units.
Two units of Metamorphs brought some elite infantry power to the list, offering tougher bodies and better melee capabilities than the standard troops. These units excelled at plugging gaps and supporting the more powerful Aberrant squads.
And then, of course, there were the Purestrain Genestealers. Three units of these iconic melee threats added a terrifying edge to Ben’s army. Fast, deadly, and utterly relentless, the Purestrains are the stuff of nightmares—once they’re in combat, it’s not about whether they’ll win, but how quickly they’ll end the fight.
2nd Place: Josh Roberts – Space Marines Army Lists
3rd Place: Michael Costello – Astra Militarum / Imperial Guard Army Lists
In the end, Ben’s Genestealer Cult army was the perfect blend of brutality, cunning, and tactical depth. The Aberrants and Purestrain Genestealers provided overwhelming melee power, while the support characters ensured that every unit performed at its peak. Vehicles like the Goliath and Ridgerunners added mobility and firepower, while the standard troops held objectives and provided the groundwork for a solid strategy.
These top army lists from The Leicester Super Major are a reminder that the Genestealer Cults can win if built with every unit having a purpose and every move is part of a grand strategy. With a little bit of finesse, they can hold their own against even the deadliest Space Marines and Astra Militarum.
The performance of these armies serves as a testament to the ever-evolving nature of the competitive Warhammer 40k meta. Studying these winning army lists for their tactical synergies provides valuable insights for honing your strategic approach.
