Founded Spikey Bits in 2009

Socials: Rob Baer on Facebook and @catdaddymbg on X

About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 350 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

This sweet conversion popped up over on Bolter and Chainsword recently.Rottimus posted an A-10 Warthog “counts as” Stormraven, and it’s pretty cool looking. He has some WIP shots, and his final product posted up on there all in the same convenient thread (see below). I think his conversion stays true to the design elements of […]

Have you ever had that tournament let down feeling? You know what I’m talking about, right? For weeks on end you feverishly paint and play-test your list for the “big event”. Undaunted by sleep deprivation, wife/girlfriend/significant other aggro, you press on just to get your army ready for the big event. Then the day arrives, and […]

Yo, need some Daemons before your Chaoses, dawg?Well they are here. And whether we like it or not (or even if they were meant to be released in this order), the lost wave of plastic Daemons have finally arrived. Much like the unexpected, (but again not unappreciated Space Wolves/ Tyranids release a few months ago) […]

So I just got the new White Dwarf in my hot little hands, read it and cranked out this video for it. The thing that is so special about this White Dwarf is the fact that for the first time (in a long time), there is a supplemental codex in it updating both Daemon books! […]

Today I have a guest post of sorts from Kirby at 3++.This is a good How-To Article about the tactic, and it’s new effectiveness in sixth. From Kirby’s Blog, I sort of did this the wrong way around – I showed you how to break a bubble-wrap before how to make one within the new […]

Don’t get left in the dust? This article contains some pretty good advice IMHO about how the Aegis line can really benefit your army.Plus at only 50 points to field, I think we all should at least familiarize ourselves with it more as even if we don’t play it, we’ll probably square off against it […]

Beef made a rare appearance the other day around the store, and brought some projects with him.One of which was a Terminator Cyclone Launcher WIP (Work In Progress), with extra goodies. The missiles he used are from the Armorcast line of pewter upgrades, and at around $5 for 4 they are priced pretty good IMHO. […]

Apparently soon we’ll be seeing regular FAQ updates in an unprecedented move to “maintain balance”.That very thing was reported today out of the UK, that starting with the release of the new starter set, we’ll see some possibly groundbreaking FAQ’s. While I’m all for restoring balance (that worked for the Jedi right?), I’m not sure […]
