About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 350 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

Today we have another guest post by TPM, that addresses what to do now with the rumored legalization of Imperial Armor units in 6th! From TPM A buddy of mine asked me what list I would build for a tournament that allowed these units and below is what I came up with. I am pretty disappointed […]

Today I took another crack at converting one of the hottest bits on the market today; the Combi-Melta gun. Here at Spikey Bits, we still cant seem to keep this particular bit in stock, and routinely cut down whole commander kits at a time, just for this one component. It’s pretty bad when I don’t […]

Well it appears I may have impressed some folks with a few Work in Progress shots I put up last night on Facebook.I like posting quick pictures to Facebook using my phone, cause it’s easy to make a small catalog of what I’m working on without stopping every five seconds and setting up photo equipment etc. So […]

I’ve been studying this picture for a few days now, and can’t seem to place any of the components.Either this is a whole new kit, or more amazing scratch builds like the “New Plastic Chaos Terminators” thread from last week. Let’s take a closer look. Here’s another potential gem in the hard to see picture from the […]

Top Level player Paul Murphy (TPM) shares with us today his first Blood Angels list for 6th Edition.TPM sat at the top of the Rankings HQ’s chart for 40k Players in America for quite awhile. Can he do it again with 6th? From TPM,I am still not completely sure how I feel about the new rules. I feel GW […]

Well this may be a big wild goose chase, BUT take a look at this… It’s been awhile since Games Workshop put out a Chaos Dreadnought. Heck  Games Workshop didn’t even bother remaking the old one into Finecast yet. So whats a Warmaster gotta to do to get some armored walker lovings around here (besides get one […]

Bursting on all sides, my display case of miniatures for sale is on the brink of destruction. I have a ton of “gently loved” miniatures for sale here at the store, and no time to list them on eBay or even type out the whole list of items. Interested in some figures on the cheap? Checkout […]

It’s a thorny question that’s been growing in complexity this week; Do missile Launchers now have Skyfire?Because Flyers aren’t getting any easier to kill, that’s for sure.  Let’s take a closer look. The question arises from the new Missile Launcher Sixth Edition rulebook entry (which remember is made for the long haul, as codices are replaced and updated). The […]

Brother Chaplain Ginn called me late last night asking if I had seen the new Chaos Terminators…Of course I replied no, where are they?  He told me somewhere in the new sixth rulebook and sent me a cellphone pic of a screenshot off the net. Immediately I dashed to the office to grab my rulebook and find that exact […]

Mr Wizard was nice enough to type up a little summary of some of the changes to the game from 5th to 6th. While this is by no means a comprehensive list or even 100% correct it’s still a very helpful aid to learning and comprehending 6th Edition. To me reading the book once, is pretty […]

The book we have all waiting for is now HERE.Sixth Edition 40k released over the weekend, and there was much rejoicing. Overall, to me at least, the game seems to be pretty streamlined now.  It feels to be more like Fourth Edition, except with many more clarifications in place that gives it a more fluid […]
