About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 350 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

If you are in the North East, and have some free time this weekend make sure to checkout Da Boyz 2011 GT in Rochester, NY. I went last year and had a blast, but can’t make it this time, as were gearing up for vending at another great event and getting ready for the Christmas Season. From […]

Last August I was able to get some pics of Dan Johnson’s Amazing True Scale Night Lords army while we were all at the last Games Day in Baltimore. Unfortunately the light in the hotel was kinda crap and they didn’t turn out the best. Eventually he made his way by the store for a weekend, and […]

So I cornered Jkin the other day, to get pics of his Pre-Heresy styled Ahriman for his Scarab Occult army, and boy does it rock. Check out this bad boy below! To kick off this project he started with a just normal Grey Knight Terminator (for statue he’s still “in power armor”), and just went […]

Mechanized Imperial Guard has been a strong build pretty much since it’s release. I started running it shortly thereafter with my Looted Guard, and did very well with the army over the past few years (most recently going 6-1 and winning the American Team Championships). In this  new competitive era of win/ loss and Primary Secondary Tertiary objectives at tournaments, I’ve had […]

Welcome to a guest post by TerranRaida. I asked him to do a review on the new Liquid Green Stuff, and he begrudgingly obliged me. You can catch up with this Master of the English Language over on his blog C.R.E.A.M (Change Rules Everything Around Me).Two days ago, bloodshot eyes at 2AM listening to Dr. Know and debating about what video to […]

So a few weeks ago I posted about how I let my buddy Master Shake borrow my Iron Hands, counts as Blood Angels, for ‘Ard Boyz round two. I haven’t fully showcased them on here yet, but basically they’re a converted marine army with tons of bionics. The army itself is pulled together with Adepticus Mechanicus bits, […]

Way back in the day before Pre-Heresy was “cool”, I attempted an ambitious project: a Pre-Heresy Iron Fists Army. Unfortunately for me, my painting skills weren’t quite up to the task and I couldn’t quite pull off painting yellow then. But I certainly had fun converting the army, and that’s all that counts. Eventually I went back and started painting them green for […]
