Will we see the Chaos Castellan replace Mortarion and Magnus? Will Cultists and Plaguebearers be screening Traitor Knights? It’s a possibility…
40k players usually gripe about the Imperium getting new toys all the time. Well here lately, it seems like all the Imperium has gotten is overcosted Primaris units that don’t fit into lists. However, Chaos is looking to get all the new hotness. With the announcement of Chaos Knights including the castellan/Armigers, it seems like the only thing that Chaos doesn’t have is the worst thing the Imperium has to offer- Chaos Primaris.
Will We Be Seeing Mirror Matches In The Future?
We know that the top competitive list for the Imperium was the Castellan, a Guard battery, and a couple of smash Captains. Meanwhile, Chaos has shifted over to Mortarion/ Lord D and a handful of other Daemons. But now that we have Chaos Knights on the way, could we see a mirror match with a Castellan, a couple of Armigers, some Plaguebearers/Cultist screen (and maybe Mortarion if there’s room)?
We think it’s a real possibility. And the scary thing is that Chaos may be able to pull off the list better than the Imperium can. Just because Plaguebearers are MUCH harder to scoop off the table than Imperial Guard, Mortarion can still get across the board turn one, and a combination of Psychic Powers that the Imperium just doesn’t have access to.
Really, it’s going to come down to how things are keyworded, what kind of marks/households the Chaos Knights have access to as well as their wealth of Stratagems. We’re in a “Wait and See” moment and we are expecting these releases to really seal the deal as Chaos being the top faction in the meta.
