40k’s iconic Armigers and Dominus-Class Knights finally got rules for the Horus Heresy. Let’s take a look just how mean they are in a 7th edition format.
Games Workshop dropped the news that the Armigers and Dominus-Class Knights got rules for the Horus Heresy. After all, these are ancient machines of the Mechanicum. It makes sense that they would be found in the time of the Heresy. Let’s go over all the details.
Armigers in 30k
The odd thing about the Armigers in 30k is that they actually come stock with Dreadnought close combat weapons. Speaking of Dreadnoughts, these guys are on about the same level as a Contemptor as far as armor values and HPs go.
The Leviathan is still a stockier counterpart. Regardless, these guys have the option to take different weapons with all kind of ammo including the bio-corrosive rounds for the Heavy Stubber.
You can kit the Armigers out to be a decent heavy Tank hunter with a 36″ ranger melta shot, or be kitted to take on almost any kind of foe with the Autocannon wounding marines on a 2+ and having the Sunder special rule for armor.
The Armigers are very fast with the Longstride ability letting them run a flat 12″ as well as having a 5++ invulnerable against shooting. Overall, they’re a decent option for any list that’s looking for a fast armored unit that can take on just about anything.
Dominus-Class Knights in 30k
In 30k, the Dominus Knights aren’t actually classified as Castellan or Vallant. If you pay the points for the weapons, you can mix and match. (i.e taking a Volcano Lance with a Thundercoil Harpoon). Don’t forget that this thing’s weakest armor point is at its rear with AV12. It’s got 7 HP total so it can take a few licks. Your best bet is to try and melta this thing off the board and hope you roll really hot on the damage table. Just get this thing out of the way.
The Dominus Knight’s weapons can really reach just about anything it wants to in the map. (The Volcano Lance getting a whopping 80″ range). Lastly, the Ion shield is a rotatable 4++ invulnerable save. You just have to watch your positioning with the Knight to get the full benefit of protection.
At the end of the day, the Dominus-Class Knight can be a real headache for your opponents. It’s got plenty of options for you to build it exactly the way you want. Be careful though. It will have a target on its back from the very start so keep it out of melta range or everything could go up in flames.
