Today, I’m showing you my eBay cheat codes to get that last model you need, up to hobby par, for the tournament next weekend.
Sometimes, you need a model at the last second, but you don’t have the time or the money to buy and assemble them off the shelf. I’m going to show you how to take a model out of the eBay shipping box and get it ready in just a few minutes.
Note: We’re going to be using washes; it takes time for a wash to dry, it’s science, so total time will be about 30-40 minutes
Step 1: Apply Black Surface Model. This is an old pewter model and touch up everything you’re not happy with.
Note: Be careful around the gold, we don’t want to repaint that because it’s fine.
Step 2: I’m making the horse a different color so that it pops out, I’m going with brown. I’m then adding menoth white on the hooves. Instantly looks better thanks to the magic of contrast.
Step 3: We’re going to add some white and brown together and hit the antlers on his crown and tie it all in with the color of the horse. We’re going to do the same thing to the axe.
Step 4: We’re going to dry-brush lighter brown on the fur, get some more contrast.
Step 5: Hit it with some of that Clutch Gloss Reikland shade and hit the atlers and the axe. Then We’re also going to hit it with some earth shade on the fur parts.
Step 6: We’re using Vallejo Black, it has more stain power, and we’re going to wash pretty much all the armor and that axe. We want to control it a bit and don’t let it rest too much, guide it and control it around.
Step 7. Dry Brush the Base with menoth white, hit the tail with it and some of the horse fur.
Step 8. Add some gold to the trim to give it some edge highlighting.
Step 9. I’m going to add some Vallejo aluminum into that new gold and then hit the edges and make it pop even more.
Step 10: since we have the aluminum out, we’re going to dry brush the ax and the metal parts.
Step 11: Then we’re going to add some German grey to ridges of the black armor to make that black pop
Step 12: Highlights, hit the red on those tassles with a bright red, hit the ear with some of that brown and menoth white mix we made earlier.
Here are the before and after’s. One of them will fit in your army and earn you some hobby points, another is a “fake” pro painted eBay model.
