Buckle up for more wild, yet probably necessary AoS rules and points changes via the Battlescroll update that GW just released to balance Age of Sigmar!
The AoS Battlescroll will be a compilation of all the rules changes, updates, and tweaks which will be downloadable here. These are mainly tweaks to rules and points, but obviously, important to anyone who plays the game.
This is the first Battlescroll compilation and it focuses on keeping the Age of Sigmar rules warscrolls consistent, whether they be too powerful or too weak. Games Workshop also released separate army FAQs here, but they are all in the update below which is convenient.
Warhammer Community unveiled the first set along with director commentary. The AoS rules changes in here will also take effect right when they drop, so if you’re playing any tournaments, be sure to keep on it!
Let’s check out some of the bigger rules changes coming with these AoS balance updates.
Age of Sigmar Battlescroll Balance Updates & Rules Changes
Let’s hear from GW about these new Aos Rules updates then get into the specific rules changes.
Each Battlescroll will feature new rule-tightening and fine-tuning, with improvements coming to factions that could use a bit of a boost, and slight changes to prevent a few powerful armies from dominating. These will be used alongside the annual General’s Handbook, which provides updated missions and rules for Warhammer Age of Sigmar matched play.
These rules will be in effect at all official Warhammer Age of Sigmar events, and we think they make the game better, so we’d encourage you to try them out at home and at your local club, whether you’re playing intense matched play games, narrative Path to Glory campaigns, or wild open play free-for-alls. Of course, it’s up to you – it’s your game!
AoS Faction Rules Changes:
These are pretty small changes overall and most just update the wording. However, the Amulet Ward save going from a 5+ to a 6+ is a big change statistics-wise. They definitely made these more interesting in terms of looks than a normal FAQ. While the new look is nice, it can be harder to grab the actual info.
Either way, it’s nice to see these AoS rules staying current, especially when the updates are free!
Age of Sigmar New Points Changes:
They compiled even more AoS points changes than this, so if you want to see everything you can download it here. Pretty much every Age of Sigmar army has some new rules updates or points changes, so it’s worth it to go check out the updates for your army!
Kragnos Rules Changes:
Kragnos has received a beefy update. Everyone’s favourite egg-smasher now has a 6+ ward through The Shield Inviolate ability, giving him a little more safety whilst wreaking havoc across Ghur. Of course, the ability also retains its original effects.
He also receives the brand new abilities Avatar of Destruction and The End of Empires, both fitting monikers for the God of Earthquakes. Avatar of Destruction prevents Kragnos from being slain by a single spell or ability, with anything to this effect instead causing him D6 mortal wounds. The End of Empires is an improved charge, allowing Destruction units to charge 3d6 instead of 2d6 when they begin wholly within 12”.
He definitely needed an update because even though he’s powerful, his points are so high not many people actually played him (at least competitively). Charging 3D6″ is an insane aura ability (and being able to declare charges from 18″) especially with a 12″ range and such a giant base.
Avatar of Destruction is also nice to keep him from being immediately slain and having a Ward save as well should help. We’ll have to see if the changes bring him into play more. The one downside is he will no longer benefit from Allegiance Abilities.
Other Character Changes:
Nagash has a new command ability, with Death Magic Incarnate allowing a friendly Death unit to add 1 to their ward rolls until the end of the phase.
His Supreme Lord of Death ability has been slightly improved, now also affecting abilities that return slain models to friendly Death units.

Even Archaon has received a slight improvement, with his By My Will ability now extending to all Chaos units rather than Slaves to Darkness units – after all, why shouldn’t Chaos’ most powerful champion be feared and respected by all of the Gods’ children?
Overall it’s great seeing them take on the balance changes, it just does mean more rules to keep track of, but better to have a balanced game!
