Age of Sigmar Metawatch For August 2023

aos-metawatch-age-of-sigmarGW put out a new Metawatch for Age of Sigmar, with the meta a little all over the place for the game heading into the Fall.

Considering GW has put out a lot of different updates for the game, you would expect it to be pretty balanced in the tournament scene. However, things are a little messy right now, but fear not; GW said they are coming out with a balance patch in September.

This GHB will also last a year instead of six months, so they should have plenty of time to get things quite dialed in for the game. Let’s jump into the new Metawatch!

The new Metawatch for Age of Sigmar comes from Warhammer Community.

Age of Sigmar Meta

Soulblight Gravelords and Ossiarch Bonereapers are excelling due to a good cross-section of units to choose from, which are all viable. Though a handful of subfactions are represented more than others, even the lesser-used Avengorii for the vampires, and Null Myriad for Katakros’ armies are pulling their weight.

GW tries to keep all the armies in a 45%-55% range, and this time around, there are only three armies above the 55%, but with Bonereapers at 61%, they are smashing right now. While only having three armies above the win rate range isn’t too bad, six armies are far below the 45% threshold (and three right at 45%.)

The one army that is always hard to keep at a good win rate is Stormcast Eternals, considering they are played so often and many times by newer players.

General's Handbook 2023

Previous scourges of the Mortal Realms have seen a dip back into the desired win rate window of 45 to 55%. Most notably the Kharadron Overlords and Gloomspite Gitz are back in the sweet spot thanks to some tweaks in the Battlescroll: Andtor. Positive discussions with players and event organisers helped highlight issues that the Orruk Warclans have had, and tweaks in the battlescroll meant the Ironjawz, Kruleboyz and Big Waaagh! all punch a bit higher thanks to new Battle Tactics.

All versions of Orruks have struggled for a while, with Kruleboyz getting it the worst. Still, they have finally crept up into that 45% range. Kharadron Overlords were hurt by the NERFs, but are still sporting a 54% win rate, whereas the Gitz has gone down to an even 50% win rate.
