Sanguinius, The Lord of the IX Blood Angels Legion just got a few of his rules finally previewed. As you’d expect, he hits like a Primarch with state-of-the-art weaponry.
Sanguinius is a literal Angel of Death in the lore. In combat, he becomes a passionate zealot capable of cleaving through just about any enemy in a flurry of attacks. He even broke a named Khorne Bloodthirster’s back over his knee…So how will he work on the table?
Horus Heresy: Sanguinius Gets His First Rules Preview
Sanguinius has the same basic statline of all his brothers essentially. (They are all Primarchs after all). At WS 9 and S6, he’ll be able to bully just about any non-Primarch unit on the table. (that’s generally six attacks hitting on 3+ and wounding on a 2+). He’s S6 and T6 with a 2+ save which is what you’d expect looking at other Primarchs. What makes Sanguinius a strong choice is his higher than normal Initiative and six base attacks! He’ll be swinging first most of the time and there’s not much out there that can withstand six attacks from a Primarch.
Weapons of the Angel
Did you know that Sanguinius can use his Primarch-sized wings to slam you into submission? When he gets the charge off, you’ll get hit with a Hammer of Wrath attack at S10, AP 2. (Yup, that’s wings made of feathers ignoring the reinforced Ceramite armor save of Terminator armor).
- The Sword Encarmine: Gives him +1 strength, can reroll failed wounds and gives him extra attacks if he’s outnumbered.
- The Spear of Telesto: gives him +3 strength on the charge, the instant death rule. Once per game, he can throw the spear as a shooting attack and then draw the Moonsilver blade.
If that wasn’t enough, he’s also got rules for his pistol called Infernus!
Infernus: Is a one-use pistol that fires two S8 AP 1 shots. If you know anything about the way the vehicle damage table works, you know how devastating this can be. It’s possible to one-shot a Leviathan/ large vehicle.
Rules of the Angel
We don’t know the full set of details, but he’s going to have something called Sky Strike. Since he essentially moves like Jump Infantry with his wings, he’ll also be able to deal some damage to enemy units he flies over.
Sanguinius is really just looking to be an aggressive wrecking ball that’ll do as much damage as he can.
Since Sanguinius is the Sire of the Blood Angels, he’ll be able to boost his Jump Infantry with him. His Jump Infantry will be able to use their jump packs in the movement and assault phase! On top of that, Sanguinius gets +1 initiative and Strength on the charge. That’s I8, S10 (with his instant death spear) in the first round of combat. Good luck surviving if you don’t have the Eternal Warrior keyword.
