Death Guard are still viable in competitive play as a new general’s Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the Bluff City Open!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Bluff City Open: Homebrew Army List
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves. You can check out event details here.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.
Bluff City Open: Joe Putman – Death Guard 4th Place
Joe’s Death Guard brings an old faction into a new light by focusing on some of the faction’s strongest units. The entire list fits into a battalion led by a Lord of Virulence and a Malignant Plaguecaster. The Lord provides hit re-rolls on a very good body with decent stats while the Plaguecaster is a great psyker with some bonus mortal wound potential packed in.
Troops bring a total of 17 Plague Marines, which are more durable than standard CSM and come with some pretty good melee special weapons. There are also 15 Poxwalkers to round out the points and bring in some extra bodies for objectives.
Elites start off with 10 Blightlord terminators, which are all devastating durable bodies with a mix of both ranged and melee threats for whatever is needed. There are also 8 Deathshroud Terminators, which have the added benefit of being able to protect nearby characters while being serious melee threats as well. The last elite is a Tallyman, which can bring in extra command points for the general throughout the game.
Dedicated Transport brings in two Rhinos for some easy troop carriers that don’t cost too many points while also adding in two more combi-bolters for good measure.
