In the World
The Dark Gods have many mortal followers in the Mortal Realms, from raving Chaos Marauders to the Everchosen himself. But there is one iconic silhouette among the Slaves to Darkness hordes. Chaos Warriors.
Bands of heavily armoured horn-helmed killers and soldiers taken from tribes in every realm. They pledge themselves to any of the Chaos Gods that favour them and spend their unholy lives serving their patron on the battlefield. Having blessed heavy armour and weapons ranging from swords and shields to great axes and halberds, all they want is to conquer the Mortal Realms once again.
Every realm apart from Azyr has a large number of dark tribes and towns inhabited by mortals of all walks of life. From these tribes some will cast away their homes and family to walk the Path To Glory. Dedicating their lives to the service of the Chaos Gods and a lifetime of warfare. Eventually they will find their kin and join the ranks of a Slaves to Darkness Warband, fighting and pillaging their way through the Realms.
When the Chaos Warriors go to war they do so with surprising order. Regiments spurred on by leaders and cursed banners march together. All while in the midst of raving hordes of Chaos Marauders and crazed cultists. They almost seem like a functioning army were it not for their behaviour in battle. Since each Chaos Warrior wants to prove themselves to their patron god, they will quickly use their skill in battle to completely massacre their foe. Showing their battle prowess, plague-ridden weapons, excess fuelled feats or manipulative tricks all for themselves, their god and chaos as a whole.
On the Field
On the Tabletop of the Mortal Realms, Chaos Warriors are a battleline unit found in Slaves to Darkness armies. Being a component in many armies cooked up by generals for their cheap cost of 90 points per 5 models and 2 wound statistic. Durable, easy to field, and an iconic unit for any Chaos army. They can also go to war in large blobs, from 5 Chaos Warriors all the way to 30 dark servants of the Dark Gods. They are legion and will easily tie down the enemy army while your heroes and support units strike the killing blow.
A regiment of Chaos Warriors can take a large variety of weapons. Their most iconic piece of equipment has to be their Chaos Runeshield. These cursed and large shield help fend off mortal wounds, on a 5+ any allocated mortal wound can be ignored. When it comes to offensive options you can choose between arming your warriors with Chaos Hand Weapons, longer-ranged Chaos Halberds or -1 rend inflicting Chaos Greatblades. All solid choices for either one or two hands. Whenever a Chaos Warrior has two Chaos Hand Weapons it can even reroll hit-rolls.
A regiment of Chaos Warriors is led by a powerful Aspiring Champion, chosen by the Chaos Gods to lead their kin. The Aspiring Champion gets an extra attack in melee, proving his mastery of war. 1 in every 5 models can be a Horn Blower. Carrying a powerful bone horn to battle to spur their comrades on. Adding 1 to the run and charge rolls of the unit. Furthermore, 1 in every 5 model can be a Standard Bearer. They carry a dark war banner to battle to embolden his kin, adding 1 to their bravery statistic.
The Dark God’s mortal soldiers, as powerful as any foe standing against them.
