Frontline Gaming Cherokee Open: Top 40k Army Lists
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
3rd Place: Sean Rice – Tau
2nd Place: Quinton Johnson – Tau
1st Place: Jack Harpster – Tau
Jack’s dominating Tau list was made of three detachments. The first is a patrol led by a Coldstar Commander, which packs some serious mobility and great firepower, along with an Ethereal, which thanks to their new buffs and systems are much better support units in this edition. Additionally, there is a no-slot unit of Bodyguards which are solid units with decent weapons that get to slot right in thanks to the unique rule allowing them to not take up an elite slot.
Troops see the cheap 10 man Kroot unit, which is the cheapest option for tau and serves as an easy requirement filler that cant sit on objectives, but when they die it doesn’t hurt too much since they are so cheap to field.
Elites see the inclusion of 5 crisis suits, all of which are running Plasma rifles and Ion Blasters, which provide a good amount of high-strength shots with some AP allowing for targeting more elite models or vehicles.
There are also 3 stealth suits with burst cannons that provide a decent volume of shots to help take out chaff for a relatively low investment.
Fast attacks close the first detachment with 8 Kroot Hounds, which are extremely cheap mobile units that you can use to tie up enemy ranged units for a turn if they make a charge.
The second detachment has much fewer models in it and is led by a crisis commander. Just like the Coldstar this model has fantastic ranged fire-power, however, it’s not nearly as mobile as the Coldstar variant.
There are 10 more Kroot to fill the detachment requirement once again and add a few chaff bodies to the list. Elites bring in 5 more Crisis suits this time wielding full flamers and airburst projectors for maximum chaff clearing power. There is also another no-slot unit of Bodyguards just like the first detachment. Closing out the second detachment are 4 more hounds, bringing the total up to 12.
Finally closing out the list and the third detachment is Commander Shadowsun. Shadowsun has always been a fan-favorite, but now with her rules featuring a huge arsenal of ranged weapons, along with fantastic support abilities to the rest of her forces make her one of the most point efficient 150 pt models in the game.
