JonBius has been putting out some really great beginner-friendly Gundam videos recently, and today he’s pre-shading their armor!
JonBius puts out some pretty good modeling content! He recently did an entire series on building and getting the HGUC RX-78-2 (which is a great starter kit) Gunpla to the best he can get it. As someone who builds Gunpla occasionally, I could really learn some stuff from him, even though this is pretty focussed on new builders.

Pre-Shading Gundam Armor For Beginners: JonBius
Right out of the box we can take a look at the instruction manuals. The pictures are relatively self-explanatory and labeled with English alphanumeric characters. Even though most of it will be in Japanese, you should still be able to follow the manual pretty easily.
If you need specific instructions for a section, the scene is growing in the western world so you can definitely get some help or English instruction online.
You might also notice out of the box that Gundam kits (Gunpla) are on multi-colored sprues. Most casual Gunpla builders don’t paint their models because of this, however in the full series by Jon he does paint the whole model to get it looking exactly how he wants it.
Another unique aspect of the kits is the PC sprues. These hold “poly-caps” which are unique flexible material made for the joints in the model so you can move them after assembly. Just make sure you are careful clipping them so they keep the tension and structural stability.
With that basic introduction, you can get well on your way to building your first kit!
