Had a song stuck in your head but can’t figure out what it is- now you can Google search song names by humming or whistling them!
It’s happened to all of us and is more frustrating than we’d like to admit! You for whatever reason can’t remember enough lyrics to find the song and have no idea who it’s by or what it’s called, well now as long as you can remember the melody, Google will find the song!
As long as you’re updating your phone, you should already have the feature, but may not know about it yet.
The new feature is call hum to search and is available on iOS, Android, or Google Assistant. You can either ask what’s the song or use the search a song button. Then all you have to do is hum the song for about ten seconds. Google will then give you a list of songs that most accurately match the tune you hummed.

Google Search Song Names By Humming or Whistling Them
Here’s a little from the Google people themselves on how it works:
Our models are trained to identify songs based on a variety of sources, including humans singing, whistling, or humming, as well as studio recordings. The algorithms also take away all the other details, like accompanying instruments and the voice’s timbre and tone. What we’re left with is the song’s number-based sequence or the fingerprint.
We compare these sequences to thousands of songs from around the world and identify potential matches in real-time. you’ll recognize the song whether it was sung, whistled, or hummed. Similarly, our machine learning models recognize the melody of the studio-recorded version of the song, which we can use to match it with a person’s hummed audio.
A pretty nifty little feature that is now available for all just about all the phones out there. It may be more frustrating though if somehow you still can’t find the song… Just get better at humming we guess.
