The financial report is in despite this being from when the world was still somewhat shut down, GW sales and profits still soared.
Games Workshop’s Investor page just released a detailed breakdown of revenue and costs for the financial period of May 2020 to 2021. It is really no shocker that they kept the profits rising. It’s just wild how much they grew in profit during COVID. But it looks like sales grew all around due to boredom and people staying at home. Let’s compare the latest results to their most recent report.
GW Sales & Profits Continue to Soar in 2021
The revenue this year went up an insane amount! Last year the revenue increased up by basically 40 Million pounds (about 54 million USD) which in itself is quite impressive. This year though, it increased nearly 84 million pounds (about 116 million USD), which is just pretty wild.
The profit for the year also followed suit, hitting an impressive 60 million increase, so they did increase costs some, but man, that is some serious profit. The earnings per share also went up by about 85%. So all in all, quite the year for GW.
There are some other interesting things to note as well, They paid out 10.6 million Pounds to employees in payments of 4k each. Still, things aren’t all peachy for employees as production aka supply is still far below demand, meaning more nights and weekends for the vast majority of staff there.
They have also put through a small price increase of 2-7%, but that’s something we’ve all seen in some way already, even if it wasn’t officially announced.
Wage-wise some ex-employees took to Twitter to shade the company in multiple posts, however, when pressed they did admit that GW did increase salaries later on after their departure.
The Joker always said if you’re good at something never do it for free- that also includes take a sub-par wage where you are not being appreciated at any job out there. Especially in 2021.
Sales across all territories have also gone through the roof. With NA going up even more than the rest of the world and still making up the majority of the market.
Comparing to 2019-2020
The growth of the 2019-2020 year was quite small, so it really looks like they kicked it into high gear and went all out this year. As they only increased about 13 Million pounds in that period. Looks like it’s a good time to be an investor of GW, as the profit is just flying.
Sales by Segment
There’s one number we want to focus on here, independent retailers! They still make up 55% of all GW sales, so they should be trying their best to keep them happy. Online sales still account for more than their own stores, but the majority is still through local game stores.
Just something interesting to look at.
Are you surprised at all by the numbers? Have you found yourself buying more this year?
