You heard that right, Happy Gilmore turned 25 this year… Watch as Happy and Shooter rehash their old rivalry decades later.
This movie holds a strange and special place in many people’s hearts. We’d be lying if we said it didn’t for us! It had everything a teenager could want, some angst, a dream to make it as a professional athlete, tons of comedy, a fight scene with Bob Barker, a pre-Modern Family Julie Bowen, a crazed Ben Stiller, and of course, Carl Weathers! It really captured that mid 90’s feel and thinking about its anniversary is really bringing back that flood of nostalgia.
But what’s better than just thinking about the movie (and rewatching it of course), is seeing Happy and Shooter fire back up their old rivalry!

Dang, looks like he’s still got it. But you know Shooter Mcgavin couldn’t let the taunt go without a response. Because after all, he eats turds like Happy for breakfast!

You need to be able to putt if you want the doqugh and Shooter looks like he’s not backing down! The feud is even being talked about by the PGA Tour, so you know this is some serious business. While there are some more niceties in there, you know that’s just them trying to win sponsors! There’s no way their hatred couldn’t have died down so soon. Maybe we could have a remake (this is probably not a good idea) where they play on the Masters’ Tour for one more jacket!
Time has almost felt like it’s flown as fast as Happy drives. But the movie is still considered one of Adam Sandler’s best comedies ever and even today is a super fun watch. It didn’t come with huge box office numbers, pulling in $41.2 Million, but considering it only cost $12 million to make, that seems like a solid win to us! We’ll take $30 million any day. While it’s fun to reminisce on Happy, it’s not the only classic comedy hitting the quarter-century mark this year!
Other Classics Turn 25
First up, another Sandler classic Billy Madison hits the 25-year mark. If you were a teenager, those two movies combined probably got more viewing hours than you’d like to admit! Well, maybe that was just us… Tommy Boy and Black Sheep have both reached the mark this year as well. Just two extremely classic Chris Farley movies that helped build the mid 90’s comedy scene into a super fun time and thinking about them really gives that feeling of carefree years.
Jerry Maguire and Kingpin are almost 25 as well, but their birthdays aren’t till a little later in the year. If you need a fun comedy to throw on in the background, Kingpin is still a great watch. Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson’s rivalry is almost as much fun as it was back then, while Bill Murray’s hair is just as wild as ever.
