Legions Imperialis: Mechanicum Battlegroup Leak Adds Epic-Scale Models to Horus Heresy

Legions Imperialis banner games workshop new releases warhammer roadmapA Warhammer: Legions Imperialis Mechanicum Battlegroup leak has been spotted! From the looks of it, this box set adds the Mechanicum to the Legions Imperialis game, bringing iconic models into a small-scale battlefield. Following the successful introduction of the Mechanicum in the Horus Heresy range, this new battlegroup allows players to recreate epic conflicts from the age of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, but in Epic scale. However, as with any leak or rumor, it still isn’t 100% confirmed by GW (even though it looks wildly official), so take it with what salt you need.

This box is expected to draw attention when Games Workshop reintroduces Horus Heresy Thursday or perhaps the new Warhammer Day preview, both perfect venues to showcase this exciting new set. Here are the key components, model breakdowns, and why this release matters for both new and experienced players alike.

Bringing the Mechanicum to Horus Heresy: Legions Imperialis

Mechanicum Battle GroupFollowing the same pattern as the larger-scale releases in Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness, the Legions Imperialis Mechanicum Battlegroup brings the powerful Mechanicum units into the fray. This box enables you to field an impressive range of Mechanicum forces on the battlefield, scaled down for massive engagements.

The inclusion of key units like Thallax Cohorts and Myrmidon Host offers tactical flexibility. While the Adsecularis Tech-Thralls and Tech-Priest Auxilia represent the ranks of disposable soldiers and support units, the more advanced Myrmidons bring firepower and resilience, perfect for controlling key points on the battlefield.

Battle-Automata: The Powerhouses of the Mechanicum

Arguably the highlight of the Mechanicum forces is the array of Battle-Automata. From Castellax and Domitar to the fast-moving Vorax and Vultarax, these robotic warriors bring a mix of heavy firepower and agility, which will make them pivotal in most encounters.

The Domitar and Castellax offer durable frontline support, while the Vorax and Vultarax provide the mobility needed to strike at weak points in enemy lines. Although the leak suggests that the box contains only two of each Vorax and Vultarax, fans are already hoping for future expansions to bolster the number of fast attack options available.

In addition, the Archmagos Prime on Abeyant stands as a commanding presence, providing strategic leadership and buffs to nearby units. It’s the perfect centerpiece for any Mechanicum army, reinforcing the power of the Omnissiah’s will.

Thanatar Siege-Automata and Triaros Heavy Transports

For players who enjoy heavy firepower, the inclusion of the Thanatar Siege-Automata and Triaros heavy transports will be a welcome sight. The Thanatar serves as a tank equivalent in this smaller scale, bringing its devastating firepower to bear on fortified positions or enemy armor. Interestingly, the leak hints at the Thanatar in this box featuring different arm weaponry than its larger-scale counterpart. This could suggest unique loadouts and tactical variations tailored for Legions Imperialis gameplay.

Meanwhile, the Triaros transports provide durable, armored mobility, allowing Mechanicum forces to advance while protected from enemy fire. These vehicles are critical for getting elite infantry like Myrmidons into position.

New & Missing Mechanicum Units

This is the first time seeing the design for the Arlatrax Battle-Automata maniple, and other than the Mech Assasin and the Scylaxx Guardian Battle Automata, there aren’t many “existing” units to be revealed after this box set.

Pricing and Potential Reveal Timing

The Mechanicum Battlegroup will likely be priced similarly to the recently released Solar Auxilia Battlegroup, which is currently priced at $178.50. Considering the number of models and stands included in the box, this pricing aligns with other large Legions Imperialis releases. After GW officially previews the new battlegroup, it’s usually about a month or so from the reveal to release, so if we see it this week (September 26th) or on Warhammer Day October 5th, this release may be near the end of October or even early November.

A (Smaller) New Chapter for The Mechanicum

With its mix of elite infantry, Battle-Automata, and heavy siege weaponry, the Adeptus Mechanicus will likely be a formidable faction in the ongoing battles of the Horus Heresy.

Final Thoughts on the Leaked Box

From the looks of it, this Legions Imperialis Mechanicum Battlegroup is a fantastic way to bring the Omnissiah’s might to the tabletop—complete with killer robots, hulking tanks, and enough firepower to impress even the most pious of Magos. With Horus Heresy Thursday or the 2024 Warhammer Day primed for a reveal, this leak might just be the cog in the machine you’ve been waiting for. Just be careful: once you embrace the machine, the flesh is weak, but the temptation for more miniatures is real!
