Maryland Open: Top Warhammer 40k Homebrew Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsDark Angels are sleeper pick in competitive play as a new general’s Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the Maryland Open!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

Maryland Open: Sasch Edelkraut – Dark Angels 5th Place

Sascha Edelkraut 1

Sasch’s Dark Angels actually did extremely well at this super major, clutching an easy top 8 slot! The list is all within a single Outrider led by Sammael and 2 Ravenwing Talonmasters. Sammael got 2 hit re-roll abilities and is a beast on his own, making for a great model to field.

The Talonmasters on the other hand have 2 Wound re-roll abilities each, making for a suite of HQ supports that can greatly boost the rest of the army’s reliability.

Elites bring in 5 Black Knights, which hit hard in melee and have great movement. Then the bulk of the list is found in the Fast Attacks starting with 4 Bikers, bringing in some more signature Ravenwing mobility.

Next is 2 Ravenwing Vengeance Speeders, which feature some great anti-armor shots on a mobile and durable chassis. Finishing out Fast Attacks are 3 Thunderstrike Speeders, which have even harder punching anti-armor shots, making any armored threat a worry of the past.

Closing out the list are 2 Dark Talons, bringing in some needed chaff clearing potential with their double Hurricane bolters.
