New Fyreslayers Ur-gold Runes Rules Revealed!

new-fyreslayers-rulesWe recently saw some changes to their warscrolls, but now GW has revealed the new Fyreslayers AoS Ur-gold Runes rules!

With the Fury of the Deep box out for a little while, we are waiting on the book, but at least GW has been showing us some rules. Obviously, we won’t know how it all fits together until we see the new book.

Warhammer Community unveiled the new rules along with some comparisons to what they were before. We’ll also check out the rules and points changes that came in the box as well.

New Fyreslayers AoS Rules For the Auric Flamemaster

Fyreslayers rules

Grimnir’s Grit blesses your forces with a ward – perfect for keeping near-naked duardin alive long enough to slay some aelves. If you’ve accepted the inevitability of death, Grimnir’s Wrath will instead guarantee they can furiously hit back before they die in combat.

On the smiting hand, Grimnir’s Resolve lets you throw units into melee in the combat phase – neatly avoiding the Unleash Hell command ability – and Grimnir’s Vengeance improves the Damage characteristic of your weapons, to help your little lads carve through their fishy foes.

Fyreslayers rules and points 5

fury of the deep 3A 6+ ward save isn’t the craziest thing ever but it can save you. The other three are all offensive and quite strong whether you want to get off a sneaky charge or just add more damage. However, no matter which one you’re going for, this will be hard to pull off. Each time you use it 6 more models have to die within 12″ of this model. So not impossible, just not the most reliable.

All the New Fyreslayers Points Changes & Rules

Fury of the Deep PointsThe biggest NERFs here are for Berzerkers as they are going up ten points for five models. Then Vulkites with shields have also gone up 10 points as well. The only deduction is the Auric Hearthguard going down by 5 points. Not that big of a deal overall honestly.

The Idoneth Deepkin also suffered a few points increases as well on their units which isn’t that much in the way of NERFs really…

Fyreslayers Warscrolls & Rules Changes

Fyreslayers rules and pointsNow they have +1 bravery, and a rend added to their weapons, however, the bodyguard rule is taken out. We hope this is because their heroes will all grab a 4+ Ward save. Then on top of that, Molten Rockbolts kind of got a big hit. Now it just reduces the enemy’s move on 6’s. Before it did all kinds of stuff like extra damage, the movement went to half, and even more. So this looks to be a huge change at face value.

Fyreslayers rules and points 2Pretty simple, but they cost more and have an inch smaller range on the Ward save aura.

Fyreslayers rules and points 4While they got a little better on the charge, they lost their re-roll. With a smaller movement, it can be hard to always get them in range to charge, either way, it’s not giant.

Fyreslayers rules and points 3This unit got hit pretty hard, with higher cost, worse attacks, and their range attack also got worse. So, while they will be getting a 6+ ward save, that doesn’t make up for all of this so far.

Let’s just hope the new Fyreslayers’ overall rules and Warscrolls in their battletome book help them out!

New Fyreslayers Ur-gold Runes Rules Revealed!

Fyreslayers rules 2

As aspiring Runefathers may be aware, Fyreslayer armies benefit from the Ur-gold Runes battle trait. You can activate one of six different runes in your hero phase, each of which offer a special bonus with an enhanced effect on a roll of 6. The new battletome adds an extra twist – Blaze of Glory, a new Heroic Action that can tune up your runes. Why leave things to chance? When you really need to fire up one of your Heroes, they can activate the enhanced effect of whichever ur-gold rune you picked – even if you didn’t roll a 6.

This is really nice because it guarantees you will be getting the rune off, so pretty sweet. Even though you can only do it with each hero once, if you have 3 or 4, you’ll get it off in all the important turns.

New Runes

Fyreslayers rules 3

The Rune of Fiery Determination has seen the most significant change. Once a simple Bravery buff, it now offers an impressive army-wide ward of 6+, ideal for weathering a turn of heavy shooting. Its enhanced effect makes your Heroes even harder to kill, boosting their ward to 5+.

If you really need a good Ward Save for a turn, might as well enhance it and go to a 5+. Still, it’s not a guarantee you’ll survive with only a 5+.

Fyreslayers rules 4

Resilience is great, but it doesn’t win battles on its own. Fyreslayers love their giant axes, and the last thing you want is for your cleaving blows to be blunted by enemy armour and magical wards. Meet the shiny new Rune of Searing Heat, which causes your attacks to dish out mortal wounds on rolls of 6.

The enhanced effect seems almost strange as generally, you’ll be getting a lot of attacks so the 6’s causing Mortals is probably more useful generally. However, if you can sneak a hero to within 3″ of a bunch of units, the enhanced effect could be super strong.

With their Flamestrike Poleaxes, your Berserkers can cause two mortal wounds on each hit roll of 6, another mortal wound on wound rolls of 6, and still have some damage in store for opponents who fail their save rolls. Now that’s hot.

This is actually a pretty insane combo, as anytime you roll a 6 in the sequence, you’ll be doing Mortal Wounds!
