Games Workshop just gave us some teasers of the upcoming Daughters of Khaine release. Come check out the latest rules for Morathi in Age of Sigmar.
The new Daughters of Khaine battletome is on its way, and this week Games Workshop is giving us previews of what we’ll be seeing inside the covers. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about Morathi and some of her new rules.
Rather than choosing which form of Morathi you use, you’ll start every game with her in her High Oracle of Khaine form. In this shape, she makes for an invaluable commander and spellcaster, gaining bonuses to cast and unbind. While she’s a little fragile, with a mere 6 wounds, her Enchanting Beauty and Iron Heart of Khaine abilities make her impossible to kill in a single turn and difficult to pick off with ranged attacks:
Any attacks made that target Morathi will have a -1 to hit penalty which is going to make it a little harder to hit her. But, where her survivability really comes in is with The Iron Heart of Khaine, which is making it so Morathi cannot be allocated more than 3 wounds in any one turn, anything over is negated and have no effect.
Worship Through Bloodshed is Morathi’s command ability which is going to allow you to pick up to two friendly Daughters of Khaine units that are within 14″ of Morathi, you can’t choose Morathi herself though. The units you chose will be able to immediately shoot as if it were the shooting phase, or, if they’re within 3″, you can instead pile in and attack as if it were the combat phase.
Get in and hit your opponent before they have the chance to take down any of your models, seems like a pretty good strategy.
Overall her stat line looks pretty good, she doesn’t have the most health in the game, coming in with only 12 Wounds. But when you factor in that she can only be allocated 3 wounds a round, those 12 Wounds are going to go really far.
She has 3 melee weapons available to her, the Heartrender, Crown of Serpents, and Envenomed Tail. Heartrender seems like it’s going to be a hard-hitting attack with a 3+ To Hit and Wound, -2 Rend, and 3 Damage. She has one shooting attack, the Gaze of Morathi, that has a 6″ range, 2+ To Hit, but they don’t show us the Wound, Rend, or Damage stats on it. But we do see the ability attached to the Gaze of Morathi:
If you successfully hit a target with the Gaze of Morathi you’ll pick a model in the target unit, roll a dice, and if the result is more than that model’s Wounds characteristic it will be slain on the spot. No word on any restrictions yet for this one, but you can bet a lot of players are keeping an eye on this one for sure.
All in all this preview is making the Daughters of Khaine look extremely intimidating on the tabletop, and Morathi looks like she is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Make sure you check back in with us tomorrow when we get an in-depth preview of the chosen guard and hidden spies of the Shadow Queen, Melusai.
