Obliteration III GT: Top Warhammer 40k Homebrew Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsAd Mech still has a chance in competitive play as a new homebrew Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the Obliteration III GT!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

Obliteration III - 40K GT top 8

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

Obliteration III GT: Eirik Kiil – Ad Mech 6th Place

Skitarii Adeptus Mechanicus Wal Hor

Eirik Kiil 1

Eirik made top 8 at a recent GT with the seemingly forgotten Ad Mech faction! On paper, you might think 3 wins isn’t good enough, but he actually had the hardest road to the top 8 with the highest opponent win percentage by far.

He went with a single battalion led by a Marshal and a Tech-Priest Manipulus. The marshal is great thanks to their wound re-roll aura while also helping to support the Doctrina Imperatives.

The Manipulus on the other hand can buff a single unit’s AP and can heal a nearby model every turn.

Troops keep it simple with 15 Vanguards and 40 Rangers giving plenty of bodies for the re-roll auras and a great ability to contest objectives.

Elites bring in 5 Infiltrators, who can deep strike in, and  20 Ruststalkers, which have the unexpected melee prowess that might catch some players off guard in a mostly shooty faction.

Fast Attacks have 5 Twin Cognis Las, and Ironstriders, which are fantastic mobile units with great weapons and decent durability. There are also 4 Serberys Raiders, which are cheap mobile units that can get some chip damage in or even to get a model stuck in melee for a turn.

Finally, there is a single Dunerider, which can help to transport a few bodies up the field and pump out a few extra shots to boot.
