Custom 3D bits supplier and designer, Pop Goes the Monkey (PGtM) is running a special deal before a mandatory price increase from Shapeways. Take a look.
POP Goes the Monkey is a designer of custom bits that are made by Shapeways’ 3D printers. As of right now, Shapeways is going to be raising the price on all materials for their products after theholidays. The owner of POP Goes the Monkey, Matt Sweitzer is working with them to try and mitigate the price hike.
Meanwhile, a special deal is coming to POP Goes the Monkey shoppers before the prices jump:
Prices Increasing at the Beginning of the Year
Coming from Matt Swetizer on POP Goes the Monkey’s Facebook Page:
Many of you might have notice that I haven’t posted any new products in the past few weeks. Unfortunately there is a reason for this.
As of Nov. 22nd, Shapeways has implement their new pricing which will now apply to any new item I add to my store. Luckily the rest of my shop will not see this increase until January 1st 2019.
Based on some product testing, I project an average increase of 68% on all my products. However, I’m currently working with Shapeways to find ways to decrease the impact of the new pricing on my products, but they will become more expensive.
If you are considering a purchase from my store, I encourage you to do so before the end of the year. In fact, my personal suggestion is to not miss my shop on Cyber-Monday (Nov. 26th) …Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Like my previous hurdles, I will not sit idly by. I am working on many possibilities to keep costs low and continue to provide custom, high-quality products to my fellow tabletop war-gamers, pro-painters and hobbyist worldwide.
Your Truly
-Matt Sweitzer
Why is the Price Going Up?
There’s a reason behind the price hike. With 3D printing getting more and more popular every day, the demand also increases. Multiple companies and people turn to Shapeways to print their items so space is limited.
POP Goes the Monkey is known for printing custom bits on sprues. An entire sprue is thin, but it takes up a large footprint. Coming from a business standpoint, the sprue is taking up a lot of real estate in the printer because of how wide it is. Because it takes more space, it’s going to cost more to make as the demand for 3D printings is growing.
Steps are being taken between Matt Sweitzer and Shapeways to continue to bring affordable bits to you hobby fanatics. We’ll be sure to fill you in on whatever happens.
Are dark times ahead for the commercial 3D printing market as we know it? It may be time to get your orders in NOW for your favorite bits to ensure you have enough for the new pricing transition in 2019.
