Newly redesigned Age of Sigmar 3.0 unit boxes were spotted on shelves at GW stores, which could mean new warscroll rules are on the way soon!
While the images were spotted online, they look like they are at an official GW store rather than an LGS. These also reflect the first two confirmed Battletomes for AoS 3.0. Let’s recap those, and then check out those images.
New Age of Sigmar 3.0 Battletomes Confirmed
As well as the warscrolls for the units in Dominion, these books contain sumptuous new artwork and lore that delves deeper than ever before into each faction. They also expand on the awesome Path to Glory narrative campaign rules from the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book.
Both books include new subfaction rules, and best of all, every battletome in the new edition contains a code that lets you access its rules in the upcoming Warhammer Age of Sigmar app, which is due to head into beta later this year.
The confirmation of digital codes is huge! No longer will you have to pay for separate digital licenses, which if you use both or just like having the option, is a huge new boon.
On another hand, looking at the covers we can see a slight redesign as is normal for new editions, making it easy to spot a current or previous edition book simply by that very clear solid-red spine.
Redesigned Age of Sigmar 3.0 Unit Boxes Spotted At GW Stores
Spotted over on Reddit, these new newly redesigned Age of Sigmar 3.0 units boxes spotted at GW stores seem to pose a few new questions than they answer (plus they just look dope).
First up there is a clearly legit box sitting on a GW Store shelf. It perfectly matches the new Battletome cover design, so it’s safe to say these are more than likely the real deal.
There was also a new Orruk box spotted, but what does it mean? Well, for starters it raises three key questions/possibilities.
Updated Warscrolls
First, these boxes are for the factions getting the first updated 3.0 Battletomes, so could these new boxes include their updated 3.0 warscrolls/datasheets? In AoS every kit has its warscrolls included in the instruction manuals (if they arent single characters), and are also free to check online via GW’s official listings for the respective product.
These new Boxes might have the updated sheets, before the Battletome release and before the GW listing updates them with the new rules.
“IKEA” Warscrolls?
Second, there’s a chance GW switches to simplified rules inside these boxes, often called “IKEA Rules” cause of their multi-language symbology. Similar to the 40k Be’lakor example included above.
This cuts down on printing cost, as currently GW prints a ton of different languages on full sheets for a lot of the kits in AoS. These show the minimum; stat lines and weapons options, that’s it. If they do go through with this, there is no telling if full sheets will still be online for free or not. This would certainly cut down on paper and ink usage, as some boxes come with as many as 7 pages of translation and rule pages on top of the instructions to assemble the kit.
New Rules Who Dis?
Third, we will probably see a slow rollout to all the boxes as they get updated Battletomes/ a 3.0 release. Ultimately, this may help you figure out what factions have been updated, making it especially easy for new players to see if the faction they are interested in is updated/current.
