RUMORS: New Plastic Horus Heresy Starter Set

horus heresy wallpaperRumors have been flying that the new Maloghurst miniature may be plastic, and herald in a new plastic starter set for the Horus Heresy in 2021!

The internet has been abuzz lately as the new Maloghurst model looks to have much more fiddly parts than usual resin, and could very well mean bigger things. People thought we could hear an announcement at Warhammer Fest, but obviously, this was not the case.

GW likes to release big things like new edition rules or starters in the summer or fall, so we still have about 6 months until we could see any potential release. It would also make sense we could see this during Black Friday, especially if this is plastic and coming from GW and not Forge World.

Not to mention the fact that both 2015, and 2016’s Black Friday releases were both Horus Heresy Box sets.

Maloghurst

One thing that this rumor has going for it is that GW never actually said new Maloghurst model was going to be from Forge World, so there’s a chance this could actually be a plastic kit like we say 5 years ago.

This in turn means there’s a chance Maloghurst could be the first mini for a new starter set for Horus Heresy.

All of which, of course, are just rumors at this point, and wishful thinking on the part of HH enthusiasts around the globe!

horus heresy walpaperWhile we don’t really have a ton to go off yet, there are a few big keys leading to the possibility. First, the Legion dispatch is going to be an ongoing series, second, the mini really looks like it’s plastic, and third, they haven’t had a new starter or anything to really grow the game system in a long, long time.

Let’s check out what we know so far starting with the new HH models that are confirmed as coming from Forge World…

New Horus Heresy Imperial Fists Praetors Revealed!

Warhammer Community just unveiled these two new minis, and more importantly, they do say they will be directly from Forge World. This is interesting because, again, with the new Maloghurst mini, they did not say that.

New imperial fists Horus HeresyAvailable in either power armour or Tartaros Terminator armour, these new models look so good that even their staunchest foes, the Iron Warriors, can’t help but be impressed. Whether you’re building an army to defend Terra or a force to take the fight to Horus and his Traitors, these will fit perfectly into your Imperial Fists collection.

If you want to see just how well you can slay some Iron Warriors, these are the minis to do it with!

imperial fists Horus HeresyAs with all Legions, the Imperial Fists had numerous Praetors – the mightiest warriors and battle-leaders within the Space Marines ranks. Among the VII Legion, Praetors were second only to Dorn in their skill with a blade, their generalship, and their mastery of the siege. To make them stand out on the battlefield (or when marching up and down along the walls of the Imperial Palace), they wear the finest armour, covered in the Legion’s symbols and insignia.

It does say they will be coming soon but doesn’t give an exact date. With all the delays, coming soon has become a bit of a hard term to understand as of late for pretty much anything in life, unfortunately.

RUMORS: New Plastic Horus Heresy Starter Set

Maloghurst was the mini that really got the rumors flying. When you compare this to other Forge World releases, it has a different feel than a lot of the resin minis. With all the small fiddly parts, like the chains, tubes, etc…

Also, in the article, they never say this is going to be actually from Forge World, which begs the question, could this mean a full kit from GW?

Again, people really wanted to see something mentioned about it or a new edition of the game at Warhammer Fest.  Don’t lose hope just yet because that event seemed to only preview things that may be slated up to 3 months away…

Could a New Starter Set be Coming in the Fall?

mk iii marineThe previous starter set, Prospero Burns sold for $150 and came out in late 2016, nearly 5 years ago!

Considering they are basically two editions behind 40k in terms of rules, the timing is right to give the game a revamp. But some people love the idea that it’s a much different ruleset. Since the Legion dispatch is going to be an ongoing series, it would make sense for them to introduce a bunch of new minis, then release them all at the same time.

Industry insiders have been telling us here at Spikey Bits that something “very cool is on the horizon” for Horus Heresy, but with all the external factors affecting product releases worldwide, it’s hard to even say when we may see it.

Traditionally GW releases new big-box game starters for sci-fi lines around Black Friday in November, just like with the last two HH box sets. So perhaps all this is a build-up to either summer or late fall release in 2021.

Again, this is all conjecture, but it would be great to see something like this to bring in new players and revamp the game all at once.

Do you think this will be a plastic mini, would you like to see a new Horus Heresy starter set?
