In the World
The mighty Slann Starmasters of the Seraphon often takes to the field of battle to show off their awesome powers. The Guard is always there to protect their Slann masters, never too far away and acting as a shield made from bone and scales. They’re armed with Celestite Polearms, Powerful Jaws, and most importantly a fierce loyalty to their masters. Due to this loyalty, they’ve never been known to back down when a bold or mad foe decides to charge their Slann. Any enemy that wants to claim the skull of a Slann Starmaster must first wade through the close ranks of the Saurus Guard. Very few have ever succeeded.
All Saurus of the Seraphon military are powerful warriors in their own right. Known as bundles of muscle and scales with the wits to compliment them. Those who are chosen to join the ranks of the Saurus are the largest and strongest of them. Only the best of the best are allowed the honor to protect their Slann. Because of this, the Guard has a unique bond with their masters. Due to their celestial link, they can only be summoned by their one Slann for as long as they take to the field.
In battle, they take up the sole purpose of protecting their Starmaster no matter the cost. Any direct attack is quickly repelled by jaw and scale. However, when their Slann master decides to meditate in battle, the Saurus Guard will often spread out far and wide. The sole purpose of this is to kill any enemy in their path. Thus, this allows their lord to contemplate in relative peace and quiet.
On the Field
On the Tabletop of the Mortal Realms, Saurus Guard are a battleline option for any Seraphon army. Clocking in at 100 points per 5 models they are pricier than their Saurus Warrior brethren. However, they make up for this with their extra wound. With those 2 wounds and a 4+ save it’s going to take a lot to bring them down. Their bravery stat of 8 makes sure they won’t run from the field easily, always eager to protect their Slann Starmasters. However, their move stat of 5″ doesn’t make them the fastest on the battlefield, with sustained battering they might falter quicker than you think.
All Saurus Guard come armed with Celestite Polearms and their own Powerful Jaws. Their powerful Celestite Polearms batter the foe with 2 attacks, a 3+ to hit and wound and a mighty -1 rend. A continued assault from these heavy weapons could break any armor thrown at them. Of course, Saurus Guard has snapping Powerful Jaws and teeth to pick at their foes too. But with a 5+ to hit and 4+ to wound their jaws won’t be all that effective against large foes.
A unit of Saurus Guard is always led by a Saurus Guard Alpha, who gets an extra attack with their Celestite Polearm. One in every 5 models can be chosen to carry a Stardrake Icon. They terrify their foe into subtracting 1 from their bravery if they are within 6″ of the Saurus Guard. One in every 5 models can also be chosen to be a Wardrummer, allowing you to re-roll charge rolls for the Saurus Guard. Finally, the Saurus Guard are Selfless Protectors to their Slann. This allows them to take wounds or mortal wounds aimed at a friendly Slann within 3″ on a 2+ roll.
The Saurus Guard is built to protect their masters no matter what.
