Painting an OOP Khorne Champion: eBay Miniature Rescue
This is the old mini we’re saving today! This was originally by Jes Goodwin and released many a moon ago. He ended up overpaying by a few bucks, but it’s not a big deal for such a historic mini. The baby is only a few weeks old, so he was able to shoot this video out before she gets too much energy.
Prepping the Mini
He puts it in his Ultrasonic Cleaner with some a concentrated cleaner, after a few cycles the paint was mostly all gone. He did opt to pin this down to a new-sized base, which turns out to be a 32mm base. Once on there, he just glues down a little sand to tie it in with his army.
Priming & Airbrushing
He doesn’t want to overcomplicate things here since the mini is so old. first, he sprays the whole thing with a black primer. Next, he uses dark red in the airbrush does a top-down spray on the whole thing. Then, he does a little lighter pass with a lighter red from the top again.
Since the army all has some blue in it, he sprays the sword blue and then hits some white highlights with the airbrush to give it a power sword look.
Hitting Some Details
He starts by hitting all the metallics with a medium silver, so he’ll have some room for highlights later on. Then he takes some Fire Dragon Orange and does edge highlighting on all the armor plates. For the face, he uses a pink flesh tone and then goes over that with a red flesh wash.
Washing
He uses the Tamiya Panel Liner to give it a boost of contrast. He does this over the entire mini to really bring out the details, using a makeup brush to take off the excess.
Highlighting
Once the Panel Liner is dry, he comes back with the original flesh tone and does some quick highlights for the face. Then he takes a bright white and does a little dot for the eye with a tiny bit of blue on the cyborg section.
Finished Mini
Overall, he didn’t have to spend too much time on this and it turned out great!
