You may have noticed that you’re not seeing what you’re used to in your Facebook feed, and there’s a reason for that. Come find how to take control of your hobby newsfeed today.
Facebook is an ever-changing social network platform, and today it’s changing once again, this time it’s your Newsfeed. A lot of readers may not be seeing the businesses or news sites showing up in their feed anymore, and there’s a reason for that. Let’s take a look at what Mark Zuckerberg had to say about the changes recently.
One of our big focus areas for 2018 is making sure the time we all spend on Facebook is time well spent.
We built Facebook to help people stay connected and bring us closer together with the people that matter to us. That’s why we’ve always put friends and family at the core of the experience. Research shows that strengthening our relationships improves our well-being and happiness.
But recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.
All of us who have been on Facebook recently may notice our feeds are flooded with posts that are not relevant to what we want to see, and Facebook is listening to the feedback. But how are they going to be “fixing” this?
Based on this, we’re making a major change to how we build Facebook. I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions.
We started making changes in this direction last year, but it will take months for this new focus to make its way through all our products. The first changes you’ll see will be in News Feed, where you can expect to see more from your friends, family and groups.
As we roll this out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard — it should encourage meaningful interactions between people.
We completely understand why Facebook has made this move, and in relation to tabletop wargaming, this can be an extremely positive thing. Increasing interaction between you and your family and friends could lead to more time spent playing, especially the friends that are posting looking for a game that you would’ve normally missed due to a series of random posts in your feed that you had no interest towards.
“But what about my Spikey Bits posts that I love so much?”
Well, we’re glad you asked, not all hope is lost! You still have the option to see posts from Spikey Bits, and your other favorite pages first in your Newsfeed, but it’s going to require an additional step on your part as the reader.
To continue to see Spikey Bits in your Newsfeed, and stay updated on the latest hobby news, you’ll need to go to Spikey Bits Facebook page, click the Following button and click See First under the In Your News Feed section. It’s a really simple step, shouldn’t take you longer than a minute, and you’ll continue to get those hot hobby updates.
Mark Zuckerberg already expects that these changes will cause the amount of time people spend on Facebook as well as some user engagement to go down, but it’s still something he feels needs to happen to help give people a better experience with more personal connections.
But we want to know what you have to say about these changes? Did you enjoy your Newsfeed? Are you looking to see more from friends and family instead of business ads? Let us know in the comments below.
