Top 40k Army Lists: Frontline Gaming Lone Star Open

Top-3-army-lists-40k-wal-hor-2Three great Warhammer 40k army lists dominated the recent Frontline Gaming Lone Star Open with each being unique over the weekend!

The Frontline Gaming Lone Star Open is over and now we’re able to look at which lists managed to secure a place in the top 10-20 of the event! Check out what the winners brought in their armies.

This event was massive, meaning there was a large concentration of meta lists and armies. This week we decided to grab our 3 favorite lists instead because the actual top was mostly Ad Mech and Dark Eldar lists we’ve seen plenty of times before.

Wyatt Turk – Chaos Space Marines

Wyatt’s list went for a more unique route taking Iron Warrior Chaos Space Marines. His Patrol Detachment is led by a Lord Discordant who is a great combatant and buffs nearby daemon engines. The other HQ is a Master of Possessions, who gains access to unique psychic powers to help buff daemon engines.

Troops bring in 10 base Chaos Space Marines, which can just serve as extra bodies to sit on objectives. Elites bring in a Contemptor Dread running a cyclone and double Volkite Culverin. This gives it a large amount of 2 damage shots, making it great against models like Primaris Space Marines. There are also  6 Possessed which serve as some cheaper melee threats.

Finishing the first detachment there is a Land raider running Multi-meltas to give the list extra anti-armor while also helping to protect some of the foot-slogging soldiers.

The spice of this list comes in next with not one, but two Lord of Skulls! The Gattling cannon provides very long-range high strength shots every turn, while the Ichor cannon has the benefit of being a blast weapon and higher AP. Not to mention these can actually do fairly well in melee thanks to the giant cleaver.

With the Lord Discordant nearby, all of these attacks will be hitting on 2s, making them threats to be taken seriously. if they survive they will lay down the hurt, no matter if at the range or in melee.

Grats to Wyatt for the sweet list and decent placing!

Chaos Space Marines looked awesome this time, but what do you think about all three of these most recent lists?
