Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the FLG Lone Star Open, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Frontline Gaming Lone Star Open: Jared Gomez – Deathwatch
Starting off Jared’s Battalion of Deathwatch, his HQs are a Captain and Librarian. These both provide unique support to the list. The captain provides rerolls to hits of one and has a Jump Pack which will allow him to swoop around with a large portion of the list to give out tons of rerolls.
The Librarian gains some unique Psychic powers, which can add 1 to hit rolls in melee and fight first, or a 5+ FNP which are both fantastic in this list.
The first Troop option is a Fortis Kill Team, bringing 5 Intercessors and 5 Outriders. This gives the list a few bodies and extra mobility thanks to the bikers. There is also a second squad of base Infiltrators just to add a bit more variety and extra wounds to grab objectives.
The final Troop is a Proteus Kill Team. This squad can redeploy during the game into your deployment zone thanks to the Homer and has 4 Frag Cannons for some high-strength shots and blast if needed.
Elites switch it up and bring in a melee threat in the form of 4 Bladeguard Vets, which are very durable and can deal great damage if they make it into melee. A Champion adds a great solo combatant, while an Apothecary adds in some extra support by healing models. Two Redemptor Dreadnoughts with Storm Bolters and Incinerators add both chaff clearing and anti-armor shots, serving as great ranged damage dealers.
Fast Attacks include 3 Suppressors, which can help clear even more chaff, with a relatively low investment cost.
Now in Heavy Support, there are 3 Eradicators rounding out the anti-armor suite and finally, there is a single Vindicator, which brings in a few more blast shots and a decently durable chassis.
Overall this list offers a unique approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.
Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
