Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the South Georgia Havoc GT, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top Homebrew 40k Army List: South Georgia Havoc GT

South Georgia Havoc GT: Chris Dailey – Astra Militarum
Chris had a unique approach because he went for pure Astra Militarum in a time where they haven’t really seen much play. His first detachment was a Patrol led by Gaunt’s Ghosts and a Primaris Psyker. Gaunt’s Ghosts are unique because they are actually a small squad of 6 specialized leaders.
They have a variety of buffs and abilities, but ultimately they serve as a flexible unit. (not to mention a pretty high cool/fluff factor if you are into that!) Troops bring in a single unit of 5 Scions, who are a tad more elite than standard guardsmen.
While Transports bring in 2 Taurox Prime, which are fantastic vehicles that can protect troops and deal some damage, without costing too many points.
The second and final detachment was a battalion led by 3 Tank Commanders. Two brought Demolishers, which are flexible and can attack both armor and troops if needed thanks to its statline, while the third tank is an Executioner, making it slightly more consistent and gains extra range.
Troops see the inclusion of three 10 man Infantry squads, providing bodies to help secure objectives or serve as meat shields in a pinch.
Elites on the other hand bring in a 4 man Command Squad and a Platoon Commander. These provide leadership buffs and can call out orders to the rest of the list. There are also 2 units of 3 Wrydvane Psykers to provide the benefit of psychic support which is always an easy include.
Finally in Heavy Support comes 2 more Demolisher tanks (Leman Russ) for more ranged damage and a single Manticore to help double down on ranged armor threats thanks to its extreme 120″ range.
Overall this list offers an older approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.
Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
