Top Homebrew 40k Army List: WG Open Summer Slaughter

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the WG Open – Summer Slaughter, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

WG Open – Summer Slaughter: Tom Lewis – Aeldari

summer slaughter aeldar 1Tom went for a more Oldschool soup-style list that tries to take advantage of the best aspects of multiple factions!

First up is a battalion of Harlequins, which is led by 2 Troup Masters who provide full wound rerolls to masque units. Next up is 3 units of Troupes to take advantage of said rerolls and also to man the upcoming vehicles.

summer slaughter aeldar 2There are of course 3 Starweavers for the troupes to sit inside until the time comes. These are very point efficient and help protect some units during the first few turns all while giving them a ton of extra mobility.

summer slaughter aeldar 3The second detachment is a battalion of Craftworlds. It is led by an Autarch and Farseer. The Autarch is a good solo unit that can constantly zip into the sky and deep strike over and over, making it extremely mobile.

The Farseer is a good psyker with the ability to reroll some of its manifest or deny tests, making it a reliable support unit.  Troops bring in 10 Dire Avengers which are the standard craft world troop choice.

summer slaughter aeldar 4 Fast Attacks see the addition of 7 Shining spears, which for a period in 7th were one of the strongest models in the game. after some nerfs (and the new edition) they became more reasonable. Now they offer high AP 2 damage shots and melee hits on a very mobile body, without too much of an investment.

There is also a unit of Warp Spiders for some utility, but these are most likely just to help round out points. Heavy Support brings in 10 Dark Reapers, which are great anti-armor ranged units. Finally, there is a Wave Serpent, which is a very durable transport for one of the more important troops like Dark Reapers.

Overall this list offers a unique approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta. Eldar is great because they have so many options, meaning if you take a soup approach you can do pretty much any gameplan you want!

Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
