Two more off-meta 40k army lists emerged in the Game Kastle February RTT Tournament, which of these do you like more in 9th Edition?
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out these awesome homebrew lists that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top Homebrew 40k Army Lists: February SCGC RTT Tournament
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
Game Kastle February RTT: Harout Baltayan- Adeptus Mechanicus
The first thing to notice in this Battalion of Ad Mech by Jason is the HQ slot. Belisarius Cawl has the increasingly rare re-roll auras, allowing you to reroll all hits in shooting within 6″, making him extremely potent. The Enginseer offers some cheap support who can help heal up the front line.
Three units of 5 Skitarii Vanguard give you a cheap solid core of troops.
11 Fulgirite Electro-Priests give decent bodies who want to get into melee, while 10 Ironstriders give some mobile ranged anti-armor support.
Two Archaeopters provide cheap air support with the potential of dropping bombs for some extra mortal wounds on blobs of chaff.
There is a single drill to help protect some of your characters and troops as they get to the frontlines, while also serving as a ranged weapon after you disembark, make it very efficient in points.
The second detachment is led by another enginseer for support, followed by a single squad of rangers for a few extra bodies. Rounding out the list is 8 Serberys Raiders which off some extremely cheap mobile units that can easily zip around to wherever you need a little extra boost.
Game Kastle February RTT: Travis Rehder- Red Scorpions
This Salamander list is super unique as it decided to go for the Red Scorpions Successor. The list is lead by Carab Culln, who is very durable and has a Core re-roll aura. There is also a Chaplain and Lieutenant for more general support throughout the list.

Troops see 10 Incursor bodies and 5 infiltrators for some cheap bodies that can grab objectives with little worry.
The first elite is an Aggressor Squad with flamers to help clear chaff in the front lines.
There are also 6 Centurions running storm bolters and flamers for even more value of shots to help take out those pesky blobs of cheap infantry and help your list get through to the opponent’s more important pieces.
A single Primaris Apothecary helps keep some of the prime targets topped off to squeeze out a few more turns of value.
Lastly in a surprising leap of faith, Travis went for a whopping 10 Eradicators. These are extremely good anti-armor units, however, most people only take 3-6. Apparently, it worked out for him in this list!
Overall both of these lists offer a little bit of a different approach but we like them because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.
Even better they got great results from the players who piloted them! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
