The Coventry GT Super Major happened over the weekend with some pretty sweet 40k army lists towards the top!
The top overall players were a lot of the same stagnant meta that has hung over tournaments like the ghost of the Knight Castellan, so we’re featuring some of the more unique lists that placed high instead!
Top Warhammer 40k Army Lists: Coventry GT Super Major
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves. You can check out the details for the event here.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just a few of our favorite, but still strong lists! Also if you happened to miss it, the meta will be changing in some manner due to the new Balance Update for 40k that Games Workshop published.
7th Place: Konrad Bartkiewicz – Iron Hands
6th Place: Jamie Balcombe – Custodes
1st Place: Mani Cheema – Orks
Editor’s Note: we already know this list is outdated per the recent balancing changes. This post was already written before that update, so we are still running it as this is a good example of WHY changes like that were needed.
Mani decided to go for 2 Outriders and a Spearhead of Orks in his list. The first is led by a Warboss on Warbike, making for a durable model that can zip around the map and lay down some hurt. Fast Attacks bring in 3 Scrapjets, for flying threats that are hard to deal with. Even better, when they get shot down you get the potential to explode them in and deal mortals taking out even more models than what they get from their ranged weapons. Flyers add in 2 Blastajets for even more aerial superiority and threats to deal damage.
The Second Outrider is led by a Big Mek with Force Field, which is notably a very durable model, while also being able to repair nearby vehicles, which this list has plenty of. Fast Attacks bring with it 3 Rukkatrukk Squigbuggies, which bring in a surprising amount of ranged firepower that will absolutely shred all marines (and any other 2 wound models). The detachment ends with a single Blastajet bringing the total so far up to 3!
The third and final detachment is a spearhead led by Makari himself, who doesn’t bring too much but is cheap and hard to take down. This detachment mixes it up by bringing 3 me guns for some grounded range support. and finally, the list closes with 2 more Dakkajets making the total amount of flyers a whopping 9.
