best coast pairingsThanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

You can find the details for this tournament here and they seemed to be fairly standard, other than being based on 500 points lists that played 5 rounds in one day! This allows for some more focused lists to let cheaper units shine more.

3rd Place: James Gibb – Blood Angels

2nd Place: Jaromir Yaro Waluszewki – Raven Guard

1st Place: Sam Hogg – Adeptus Custodes

For the 500 points of Custodes, Sam went for some simple and effective models. He went for a Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike, which is arguably one of the best HQs in the game and easily for the Custode faction. Not only do they have fantastic melee and shooting, they also have great movement thanks to the bike and a re-roll aura for the remaining forces in the list.

The second choice is 3 Sagittarum Custodians with their ranged options, making them heavily favor ranged shots. This allows them to target different options while still benefiting from the Captain’s re-rolls.

Finally, there is a Galatus Dread which is very tough thanks to a great armor save and high toughness (plus a big ass shield). Overall, it is a mobile melee threat that is especially hard to deal with in lower point games as it’s harder to focus fire.

While 500 point tournament results might be hard to gauge on value, they do help provide statistics on individual unit performance separate from broader list construction.  Plus this format seems pretty cool, and allowed for more games in one day too!

What do you think about all three of these most recent lists? Do you like seeing the Custodes do well, even in a smaller point tournament like this?
