Here are the best and worst Warhammer 40k armies for October 18th in the latest power rankings from 10th Edition tournaments!
Thanks to Mr. Taste at Blood of Kittens, here’s a look at the latest placings and meta from the larger 10th Edition 40k tournaments last weekend!
Best & Worst Warhammer 40k Armies Through October 18th
The latest 40k balance dataslate might still be settling in, but to all of our dismay, Eldar has clearly risen to the top again. However, under them, there seem to be quite a few good options!
This is what Mr. Taste had to say:
Last week, we saw 15 factions take the top spots, but this week, that number went to 14, which is still pretty good considering how things looked at the beginning.
The biggest winner must be Orks! They actually placed 2nd! (and were only below Eldar)
But how about the larger meta picture overall? Well, Eldar certainly has more competition at tournaments running the balance changes, which makes us hopeful that the competitive scene will continue to get better, and they finally aren’t on top from the weekend…
They are still on top overall, but things are getting better.
Warhammer 40k Meta Overview from October 10th 2023:
Statcheck.com also has us covered on the overall Warhammer 40k faction win rates and meta, compiling the data up to October 10th, 2023, for just Balance Dataslate play.
How to Read This Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart:
The Warhammer 40k Meta Overview Chart is color-coded for the most part. Grey is the sweet spot; ideally, every faction would be light grey or between a 45% and 55% win rate.
Blue is overpowered, and in contrast, Oranges are underpowered. Essentially, the darker shades are too far gone and need changes or shifts in the Meta. That’s not to say every darker blue and orange faction needs balance changes, but it DOES mean something needs to be done.
Game balance and meta are super complex, with each faction (and general’s ability) being its own cogs in the bigger picture.
Simply put, the most played faction in any competitive game should never be the most winning faction. As the popularity of a faction goes up, the skill, specified knowledge, and experience of the average player in that faction go down (new players moving to it).
What’s New With Competitive Warhammer 40k This Week?
Leagues of Votann and Tau are the two biggest benefactors of the Dataslate, as they both went from abysmal win rates to 55-56%! But this week the Orks seemed to rise above!
Orks have been jumping up, winning some significant events over the weekend, and even ended up as the 2nd most winning faction! Apparently, it’s an excellent time to play Xenos in 40k. Well, unless you play Drukhari, as they have fallen to the bottom, and the other NERFs seem to have had the intended purpose, as both Custodes and Knights have fallen to a 44% win rate.
Either way, there are still a couple of outliers, but most armies are resting in that 45%-55% zone where GW tries to keep the armies.
