An Empire at War: New SW Destiny Announced

Star Wars Destiny is about to be in the midst of all out war with a surprise reveal of yet another expansion of cards! The Empire may new be the same again.

The latest Destiny expansion, Empire at War, has a lot of new characters coming your way! Let’s take a sneak peek at what Fantasy Flight has cooking up for us.

It seems the cast of Star Wars Rebels will be making its way into Destiny, and Ezra Bridger is first up on the line up. At 7 points for the single dice version, he  may well be the cheapest character for the Heroes. His die features a 1 ranged, +2 ranged, 1 disrupt, 1 resource, and 1 special ability. He can have Blue upgrades played on him and can ignore play restrictions. His special ability allows himto steal 1 resource from an opponent, being a Force sensitive thief and all.

an interesting Event for Yellow Heroes, Quick Escape is a nifty removal card that costs 1 resource. It allows you to remove 2 dice showing melee or ranged, but you must pass all of your future turns this round. It will take careful planning to make your Quick Escape and ensure that your passed turns will be free from harm.

The Empire’s most devious strategist makes his debut in Destiny. Grand Admiral Thrawn is a Red Villain that has studied the  art of war. Featuring 1 and 2 focus, 1 disrupt, 1 shield, and a huge 2 resource side make Thrawn a master strategist. His built in ability is where he truly shines. After you activate Thrawn, you may choose a number. Then look at an opponent’s hand and discard a card that costs the chosen number. This is a great way to get rid of Second Chance by choosing “3” as your number. No more second chances for Poe/ Maz decks!

Adding to the arsenal of Red Villain tricks, Ruthless Tactics allows you to resolve those tricky dice that have resource coasts and boost them. You get to resolve a die, and increase its value by the resource cost showing on it.

Preparing for war is the best policy, and this namesake card nets you a resource on turn 1 in addition to your stating 2 resources. It can only be payed if this is the first action of a round, so this card must be played at the right time.

Turning to the Red Heroes, The Day is Ours is an incredible card. For 2 resources, you can claim the battlefield, even if an opponent already claimed. This card is going to be the bane of Krennic decks out there!

The most powerful Jedi duelist, Mace Windu arrives on the battlefield to give swift justice to the enemies of the Jedi Order. Mace is a beast with 2 sides that have 2 melee, 4 melee for a resource, 1 shield, and 1 resource. His action ability is for those long drawn out games when you opponent keeps healing his characters. As an action, you van remove his die to defeat a character that has 2 or less remaining health. This is a great way to end the game fast for Villains who dare oppose Mace WIndu!

His namesake upgrade, Master of the Council, can make Mace Windu one of the most powerful characters in Destiny. This card boosts his melee stats to insane levels, and has an amazing special ability. Exhaust this upgrade and spend 2 resources to ready a character. Just finished resolving Mace to defeat a character? Use this upgrade to ready him to bring that pain again and again!

Destiny gets bigger and better with no signs of slowing down. We can’t wait to get our hands on these new cards!
