Star Wars Destiny has had explosive success since its release in December, despite scarcity of product. Can the supply keep up with the demand for this hot new game?
Fantasy Flight Games has freely admitted that their expectations for this game have gone far beyond what they could have anticipated. The first set, Awakenings, has officially been declared sold out. Word around friendly local gaming stores ranges from flush with product, to sold out in minutes. All is not lost however. FFG has stated that one final limited print run of Awakenings boosters is expected to hit stores in June 2017. This will be Destiny players’ last chance to grab boosters.
Rey and Kylo Ren starter sets will continue to be produced until the next set, Spirit of Rebellion, releases in May. Expect demand for these new cards to be ravenous. FFG seems to not have addressed their production problems. They have said that they will release future expansions in waves to keep up with demand, but when they are gone, they are gone.
They will not reprint booster sets once they are gone. Is this a bold move to keep demand high? There are risks, but Fantasy Flight is willing to gamble a Smuggler’s bounty of a fan base to keep this game going. Will you continue to play Destiny despite its uncertain future?
