With the Superbowl having ended, we finally received our first look at the newest spin-off movie in the Star Wars universe, Solo in the form of a 75-second teaser.

The movie revolves around a young Han Solo and his misadventures in his past before meeting Luke and Obi-Wan in the Tattooine Cantina as a fun addition to the Star Wars cinematic universe and world-building.

The story sets up a beginning for Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) at the Imperial Academy training to be a pilot. Being the rebellious young buck he is, we can expect him to rustle some feathers, and potentially get kicked out or escape in some manner. With Woody Harrelson seeking Han, we can see him creating a group, where we can potentially expect to meet Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian (played by Donald Glover), and various other fun characters, and engage in a big, fun heist plot. With many interesting setpieces in the trailer, including a large monorail-like train on a snow planet, a sandy beach area in which Han unbuckles his signature blaster, ready for a fight, and being chased through a gigantic storm by the Empire while dodging gigantic space-monster tentacles, the movie shows promise of many exciting moments and scenes for us to take in.

The film was unfortunately muddled with many production issues and bad blood between actors, director, and producers alike. A specialty acting coach was flown in to help improve Alden Ehrenreich, who was rumored to have issues working alongside Donald Glover and his dialogue improvisation during scenes, something the studio should have expected, considering Donald’s history in comedic skit-acting. The biggest concern is what happened with the director’s chair. Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller, the original directors of the film, were fired by Disney over disagreements on the movie’s tone and content and were then replaced by director Ron Howard. Not to place any concern on Ron’s abilities as a director, but to have a movie encounter so many issues understandably raise some red flags.

Despite the issues, the movie has the potential to be a fun romp in the Star Wars universe. Heist movies are generally a fun time, and its mix with the sci-fi universe of Star Wards could result in some fun, unique scenes and action. Regardless, we can only hope for a fun time as the movie release on May 28th, Memorial Day, 2018.
