Gina Carano has sued Disney over the MandalorianActress Gina Carano has sued Disney over the Mandalorian show, and now she has support from Elon Musk and his X/ Twitter platform.

Gina started as an MMA champion who moved into acting, and it seemed like The Mandalorian would be her breakout role. After the second season, she issued some tweets on X that caused an uproar. Disney removed her character, Cara Dune, from the show and terminated Carano’s contract. However, it looks like she’ll be getting some serious support from both X (Twitter) and Elon Musk.

Gina Carano Sues Disney, Lucasfilm, Tries to Get Back on The Mandalorian

The-Mandalorian-Season-2-Poster-Gina-Carano (1)She filed the lawsuit in California federal court against Lucasfilm and Disney, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination. In Carano’s case, she claims that her dismissal was a deliberate attempt to silence and discredit her. She also points out the difference in treatment between her and her male co-stars, Pedro Pascal and Mark Hamill, who she says reportedly faced no consequences for their political expressions. Carano seeks to be reinstated in her role without any loss of pay or benefits, compensatory damages, and back pay.

Carano’s lawsuit is also critical of Disney for pressuring her to interact with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD) and apologize publicly, both of which she refused to do. She also alleges that Disney launched a smear campaign against her, which made it difficult for her to secure other employment opportunities.

The issues began for Carano in 2021 as she made a series of Tweets likening modern-day divisiveness in politics to the prosecution of Jews in 1940s Germany.

Her post read, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

There was a severe backlash to the Tweets, which may have led to Lucasfilm terminating her contract and her agency cutting her from their roster.

X & Elon Musk Helping Fund the Lawsuit

Gina Carano Sues DisneyThe head of business operations put out a statement about how they will help Carano in the case: “As a sign of X Corp.’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination.”

Elon Musk himself has promised to support the case. How everything will unfold remains to be seen, but it could have significant consequences for both Disney and Lucasfilm.
