Existing Star Wars Players Fuming Mad Over Shatterpoint

shatterpoint-star-wars-atomic-mass-gamesPlayers from other Star Wars miniatures games seem to be fuming mad over the announcement of Shatterpoint; here’s why.

The game itself looks almost to be like Marvel Crisis Protocol, with very similar bases. But from what Atomic Mass Games has said, that may not be the case.

Regardless seems like a lot of hobbyists aren’t taking this news very well, as it seems like the main concern for this negativity is centered around if it will kill off Star Wars Legion as we have seen with previous Star Wars miniatures titles in the past…

Existing Star Wars Players Fuming Mad Over Shatterpoint

As you can see, either way, the announcement is garnering some serious attention on the AMG Facebook page. At the time of this writing, there are almost 500 comments and only 660 likes, so people really have a lot to say about the game.

Mad over Shatterpoint 2The comments themselves are not very positive, and even on certain FB groups, mods have had to ask people to stop talking about it.

However, the majority of the comments from players seem to be that they believe Atomic Mass Games will stop supporting Legion. However, AMG has said many times now the game will still be supported with new minis and rules.

With what happened to Armada (and Imperial Assault before that), we understand why people are getting nervous. To their credit, AMG has addressed this by repeatedly saying they have plans well into the future for Star Wars Legion.

From AMG’s Twitter, they put out multiple tweets saying they will still be supporting all the other Star Wars games, and Shatterpoint will be an addition to their existing line.

Upcoming Star Wars Legion Releases

Plus, during Ministravaganza, they talked quite a lot about all the new minis coming to Legion, and there are still a fair number of those (like the full Ewok release) that have yet to be released.

Here’s a list of upcoming releases discussed on AMG’s Twitch streams:

  • Dark Troopers
  • Rebel Ahsoka
  • Moff Gideon
  • Ventress
  • Ewoks &  Ewok Battleforce
  • Commander Cody & Clone Character upgrades
  • Republic Ashoka
Also, AMG has mentioned the following could be future releases.
  • Tempest Force Battleforce
  • Imperial Remnant Battleforce

What Mechanics With Star Wars Shatter Point Have?

With the bases looking very similar and the models seemingly scaled about the same, people also seem to be nervous that this is just going to be an MCP copy of Star Wars. However, AMG has been pretty adamant that this will play differently despite some of the similarities.

According to comments on their Facebook:

Star Wars: Shatterpoint is a totally new game with its own mechanics and structure. We can’t wait to be able to share more with you next year. There are also plenty of Legion releases planned for 2023 – so fear not.

At this point, there isn’t much to do and wait. Plus, AMG has been very forward, saying this will not be taking the place of Legion.

So we’ll really just have to wait and see how it plays and if they keep supporting Legion, which seems to be the case so far!

What are your thoughts about the new Star Wars shatterpoint game? Are you excited or mad to see it?
