From the sounds of the description, the new hire will lead licensing deals, help keep the IP in GW’s control, and report to the head of the legal team.

Let’s check out the job details.

It’s exciting times here at Games Workshop and we are looking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in Intellectual Property law and licensing (specifically copyright and trademark law) to sit within the legal team. Reporting into the Head of Legal and Compliance you will join a fast-paced team, leading on and negotiating a wide range of Intellectual Property Licences, and providing advice to the business on both contentious and non-contentious Intellectual Property matters whilst taking into consideration the interests of individual departments and Games Workshop as a whole.

We are looking for someone that is comfortable working autonomously, whilst also showing the initiative to work collaboratively and support other members of the team on points of escalation and managing a team member.

You will ensure that we remove any unnecessary overheads to Games Workshop with the provision of legal support to the business, ensuring that you excel in Copyright and Trademark Law. You will be adept at advising on industry standard practices for all branding and media projects, instructing external counsels (often in foreign jurisdictions) and maintaining a portfolio of legal advice.

With advanced skills in building sustainable relationships you will work collaboratively across all areas of the business including the Brand Protection Team and Archiving Department to achieve Games Workshop’s strategic goals, whilst ensuring you are abreast of IP legislative changes and providing advice to the business in relation to the same.

This sounds like they are hiring more people but might also be replacing someone who is existing on the team.
