GW’s New Storage Case Wants To Probe Your Warhammer Minis

games-workshop-storage-case-figures-miniaturesThe new Games Workshop storage case gets rid of foam to make a product different from anything we’ve seen before for skirmish-style games.

The new case will forgo the use of foam for little silicone bristles to hold your minis in and keep them from getting damaged, no matter the style. Well, at least that’s the idea.

They probe from the top and bottom of the case to keep minis snug, but with how this is set up, it doesn’t really feel like it could be used on a much bigger scale, but who knows?

The latest on Games Workshop’s new storage case comes from Warhammer Community.

Robust solutions already exist for larger armies, but for smaller games such as Warhammer Underworlds, Kill Team, Warcry, Blood Bowl, or Necromunda, you need something small, portable, and hard-wearing. That’s where the Stormvault Skirmish Case comes in.

Unlike previous cases – lidded with foam inserts – the Stormvault Skirmish Case is designed differently. Both halves of its interior are lined with silicone bristles to hold your miniatures in place. They’re spaced to hold miniatures on Citadel Round Bases between 25mm and 40mm, and can even accommodate cavalry and bikers on oval bases up to 75mm.

This is undoubtedly an interesting idea, and as you can see in the picture above, the bristles seem to bend pretty easily to not harm the miniatures. This has a much different feel and look than foam, and we’ll have to give it a shot to see how it works. Obviously, it’s not made for giant miniatures, but it could be a cool solution for skirmish games and single squads.

When you close the case, these smooth bristles flex to accommodate your miniatures, ensuring that the thinnest spear or most delicate pennant won’t get snagged, or feel any pressure.

It might feel a little odd the first time you use this and close the bristles on your minis, as you can’t really see how the top will line up.

When you’re done playing, close the case and seal it with the four clips located around the edge. The case itself measures 278mm x 220mm x 41.5mm, which makes it the right size to bag up for an evening game.

The Stormvault Skirmish Case will replace the bulkier Citadel Skirmish Figure Case when it is released, leaving the Citadel Battle Figure Case and Citadel Crusade Figure Case for your heavy duty transport.

If you use the current Skirmish case, it’s going away when this releases. This means if you might need another one or to get your first, you better do it before this drops.

What do you think about the new carrying case? Do you like the idea of bristles over foam?
