FFG-asmodee-price-hikesAsmodee (the company that parents FFG) just announced price increases on its key game lines in an announcement at GAMA 2020 yesterday. Check out what’s going up!

Coming from ICv2, Asmodee announced that some of their prices on key game lines would be going up.  Let’s take a look at the announcement from Asmodee.

FFG Asmodee Announces Price Hikes & More at GAMA 2020

star wars rebels legion headerAsmodee, which if you didn’t know, parents Fantasy Flight Games, dropped the announcement that their prices would be going up on products.

Asmodee announced dozens of MSRP increases, most ranging from 10-20%, on key game lines at GAMA Expo today.  The changes affect evergreen lines including Catan, Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, and others.  Retailers will be able to order the affected titles at the current prices through April 30; the new prices will take effect on May 1.  The price increases are related to underlying cost inflation over the past several years, a period during which Asmodee has kept pricing flat.

So it looks like you have until May 1st to buy any Asmodee games you might’ve been thinking about getting at the old pricing.   To give you a better idea of what’ll be going up in cost, here’s a chart of their 2020 price increases according to ICv2.

They also point out that this price increase is not because of any kind of trade tariff on their product.

“The trade war that we are in the middle of with China has cooled off quite a lot,” he said.  “There’s not been any additional tariffs, as of right now, our products have been unaffected. We haven’t done any tariff-related increases.  If we did do that, we would do it as a surcharge on a temporary basis. It would go alongside of the tariff and be removed when the tariff was removed.”

Asmodee Continues Minimum Advertised Price Policy (MAP)

Star Wars Legion Wal HorOn top of the price increases for retailers, they are going to have to continue to adhere to the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy. That basically prevents anyone from advertising discounts discounting their products more than 20% of the base price. They’ve also got a dedicated crew to monitor the pricing of their products across online stores.

Asmodee currently uses three externally provided software systems aNd two full-time employees to monitor online pricing…

Overall we’ve been seeing potential signs of trouble at FFG since last year, however, these increases may just be part of a bigger corporate shift to increase the business’s overall health.
