Get ready to add some final details to Marneus Calgar in the latest Marneus Calgar Painting Masterclass series by Jack of Clubs Painting!

This Jack of Clubs Masterclass Painting tutorial series on painting Marneus Calgar is well underway, and this latest installment will help get those fine details done. Let’s get Marneus close to his finished state and ready to smash some traitors in your tabletop games.

The first step in the fine detail work is to edge highlight his blue armor, using Baharoth Blue from Citadel Paints. Jack prefers to use this color for Ultramarines blue. The technique used for edge highlighting is to get most of the paint off of your detail brush and gently scrape the side of your brush across the hard edges of this Marneus model.

This prevents you from pressing your brush too hard, giving your nicely painted model a splotchy edge highlight on a clean edge. This technique is basically dry-brushing, so take your time and be extra careful making sure to use the side of your paintbrush.

To add a little bit more character to the armor, Jack likes to thin out the paint he used previously to add some scratchy lines off of the edge highlights. These can act as paint scratches or glints of light reflecting off of the edges of the armor. They add character to a battle-hardened Chapter Master of the Ultramarines.

Wild Rider Red from Citadel will add some highlights to the reds on Marneus Clagar’s armor and flash. The technique won’t involve edge highlighting as the gentle folds of cloth don’t work well with a sharp edge highlight. Edge highlights need to be used on hard edges where a color terminates, accentuating the armor.

The finishing touches on Marneus’ bionic eye use Vallejo Flat Red to achieve a glow effect. A single dot on the center of the lens should be just enough to get you where you want to go. Marneus Calgar is nearly finished!
