Don’t miss one of the chilliest painting tutorials out there- we’re painting up some icy effects for horns and weapons this time on Beastclaws!
Grab a seat and chill out with one of the coolest painting tutorials around featuring a Thundertusk from Age of Sigmar. The focus in this painting tutorial is to achieve an icy effect on the tusks of this great beast.
Basecoat
After having base-coated this miniature with Mechanicus Standard Grey, the first paint to go on is Kantor Blue from Games Workshop. The airbrush is used to start the first base coat of blues on the horns to get a nice lay down on these colors and fade it with more grey after finishing up the blue colors. These color will all blend together to really create a frosty look, fitting of such a great snow beast.
First Highlight
The next color to really bring out the icy feel of this Thundertusk is Lothern Blue from the Citadel Air. Starting halfway down the horn, the first solid highlights of this bright blue bring out the icy look. Next up for a highlight on the icy hues is Ulthuan Grey. Make sure your airbrush is clean so you don’t get any extra blue through the grey.
Final Highlight
The Ulthuan Grey helps with the highlighting since it is actually grey. It can be used with a white later on in the painting scheme to add a hyper-highlight. To create some more definition, a little bit of black can pull off the frozen look. Coat it with a nice gloss finish and you have an icy paint job.
