Next Level Painting is going to test out some new airbrush paints for you hobby fanatics out there! These paints are airbrush ready, so let’s try them out!
Spray Gunner has sent Kenny some ChromaAir paints to try out. These paints are airbrush ready, but we will add a dash of Flow Improver to keep things icy. Testing out these paints is a Shadow Hulk miniature from Mantic.
These paints will be put to the test as we try out a pre-highlight paint scheme for our test model.
The colors used for the Shadow Hulk are white, grey, and black to help establish a pre-highlight. The ChromaAir paints are suitable for airbrushing. No paint spatter from this paint! First, the grey paint gets us going on our highlight over black in a top-down paint angle. Start at the large flat portions of your model and let the paint run over the details.
The pre-highlighting technique works well as value painting or pre-shading. Using total monochrome black and white sets up future paint layers. Later, with hues added, the color will take on the properties of the grey and black and every color in-between to set up a natural transition.
The ChromAir paints work very well in keeping the paint on nice and smooth. Normally, this technique takes a few more coats to achieve, but the ChromAir works fantastic on the first pass. one of the secret techniques of Next Level Painting is to keep some of your previous paint in your airbrush to help mix and ease the transitions of paint.
The ChromaAir white paint stays crisp and clean, especially when mixing with the previous grey in your airbrush pot. These paints work great with airbrushing, but skip the paintbrush techniques with these paints.
