Chaos 40k Night Lords Rules Preview Comes For Us!

Raptor-Night-Lords-horz

Don’t miss the latest on new Chaos Space Marine rules as The Night Lords just got a preview from the Warhammer 40k Vigilus Ablaze book.

Warhammer Community posted an early preview showcasing the Night Lords Legion! What will these fast, terror-tactic using Marines be doing on the table? We’re glad you asked. Check out what kind of havoc they’ll wreak.

Night Lords Prey on Fear

Spend 1Cp to turn a unit of Night Lords with jump packs into a Host Raptorial detachment.

Before we jump into the new detachment, we should familiarize ourselves with the Night Lords legion trait. Essentially, every unit of Night lords has a stackable -1 Ld debuff within 6″.

Now looking at Terror Strike, you’ll want to take three units of something like Raptors. Haarken is also a no-brainer here. Once you get these guys into combat and they kill something, pop this 1Cp stratagem to nuke the morale of other units that are close by. You can make a unit a whopping -6 to their leadership! So how do you use this? Charge a gunline and make sure you dump enough attacks into one unit to completely kill it off. Then, sprinkle a few attacks around to the units you multi-charged. Even if you kill one model and they end up taking a morale test, they’ll be a massive -7 to their leadership. People will run.

It’s an interesting take on the Night Lords and definitely fluffy. Although we’re not sure how competitive it will be. This stratagem definitely requires some finesse!

Reroll Everything With Warp Talons

If you decide to roll with Warp Talons in your Host Raptorial detachment, then you can pop this 1Cp stratagem at the end of the movement phase when a Hot Raptorial unit is set up. You can re-roll hit rolls for attacks made by the unit until the end of the turn.

That means Raptors will be able to reroll their hits in shooting as well! However, if you want real results, pop this on a unit of Warp Talons to have them re-roll hits from the stratagem and re-roll all wounds from their lightning claws. The only thing tricky about this stratagem is that there’s no guarantee you’ll make it into combat. If you drop your Warp Talons in, pop the stratagem, and then fail the charge, you’re just down 1CP and your unit is left in the open.

Like we’ve said before, these stratagems and rules definitely look fluffy, but looking at it from a competitive standpoint, they seem very finicky. What are your thoughts on the Night Lords support in Vigilus Ablaze? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
